20+ RECEIVE JESUS AS THEIR SAVIOR!

Jesus said, I did not come for the well but the sick and those in need. What society discards as used, useless and failed, God sees as valuable, with potential and they are the direct bullseye and purpose of His love.

When the Church of the Harvest missions team form Kansas was in Campos do Jordāo in March, this Catholic Rehabilitation center heard that we were in town and were saddened that we did not get to visit them. So when Débora and I returned to Campos do Jordāo this month in July for some meetings and to tie up loose ends on the soccer field and recreation area project, they asked us to come visit.

At lunch time they asked us to share a word with the men. The Presence of the Holy Spirit was so precious, as many of these men melted in tears and their hearts were opened the the Good News message of the cross and what Jesus did for them.

We toured the property and they shared this miracle story with us. In March All Nations and The Church of the Harvest installed sod grass as a temporary measure in order to have the inauguration of the field until the synthetic grass would arrive and get installed. It was our intention to donate the grass to whomever would need it in the local community once the synthetic soccer field grass arrived. This Rehab center (30 minutes out of town) heard about the sod grass that was to be donated and sent a guy who waited almost a 1/2 day at the door of the home's association director (Bandeira) to inquire about the grass. Long story short, the majority of the grass was donated to this rehab center with the rest going to various parks and places around the city. The men were telling us that they had specifically prayed and asked God for grass to go around their swimming pond. AMAZING! A real testimony to these men that God is interested in them! When this grass came available, they just could not believe it! They had actually been specifically asking God for this grass.

Monte Carlo Soccer Field & Recreation Area is Complete

FROM THIS...

TO THIS...

WHAT WAS DONE: A new soccer field with synthetic grass, new exercise equipment, new children's playground area, 1/2 court basketball, and a renovated gazebo, with a new roof, concrete floor in lieu of the previous dirt floor and the installation of running water and a kitchen sink.

BEYOND WORDS... There is really no adequate way for us to convey the transformation and change and of how this project has impacted not only this neighborhood of 6,000 residents that directly utilize this new recreation area, but how it has impacted the entirety of the city. New life, care and concern for the poor have been injected into the local government, citizens and community groups. And the name of Jesus has been exalted through the action of service and demonstration of God's love.

We have included here in this newsletter on the right hand column a couple amazing personal testimonies from local people involved.  Check them out, YOU WILL BE SO AMAZED!

This project would not have been possible without our partners and your prayers. When we visited the completed project, we heard from several people that they now have a different perspective on Christians. Every time people walk by, and they use these facilities, it's a reminder of the American missionaries and all those who supported and helped, and that they sacrificially gave and loved a people they did not know. It points and directs them to the heart of God and what it truly means to be a Christian and represent Christ.

Now that the field and project is completed, with all the associated expenses related to this Mission's project we are short roughly $7,300. If you would like to help participate and be part of this we would love and need your support and help.  THANK YOU.

The Transformation of a Community
Beyond the work and rehab project that was accomplished, the community has taken up the continuity of the project. Through local volunteers and support they have added an outdoor bar-b-que area with a pizza oven, an outdoor platform for local functions and performances as well as, are in the process of building kiosks to house vendors to sell food items and such for local fundraising needs.

IT'S JUST BEAUTIFUL to see and watch all this unfolding...

Débora's Column

Its been a while since I last sat down to write something for you guys. So much has happened! After months of planning, meetings, travel and dreaming, the week of missions in March was a HUGE success and many lives (including ours) were impacted and changed. The team truly spread the love of Jesus everywhere they went. We could not have picked a better group to have come from Church of the Harvest and we truly felt like family the whole time we were together. Thank you to each and every one that came and so selflessly and tirelessly gave  and loved on the people of Campos do Jordão and on us. We are blessed to be part of such an amazing family of God!
After the mission's trip we left for the US and ended up staying home for 3 months. Time with our family is always the best and I can't tell you enough how blessed I feel to have the opportunity to go home to Kansas.
I have been struggling with my health for many years now, and finally in January I got a diagnosis of Hashimoto's (which is very common btw). Basically it is an auto-immune disease where the immune system attacks the thyroid and keeps it from functioning well. During the mission's trip in March I think my body just gave up and I felt worse than I ever remember feeling. Exhaustion, digestion issues, weight gain, mental fog, insomnia, coughing, hoarseness, losing my voice, unexplained fevers, hair loss... so much going on. We had been going non-stop for a couple of months. It was so hard to want to do so much, but physically not be able to do it. I seemed to be crying for everything. After  a roller coaster of exams and trying to get in to see a specialist, I had a total meltdown. After that I started my own research and decided to begin the change with nutrition while I waited for an appointment. I can tell you this much, after 6 weeks of no gluten, dairy, sugar and caffeine I'm finally starting to feel and sleep better. I've always been very health conscious, but this is at a total new level. The first 2 weeks were very hard, but I kept reminding myself that I would rather feel better than to eat something that is not the best for me. It is working!!!
I went to see an endocrinologist here in Brazil last week, and have been on thyroid medication for 4 days now. I wholeheartedly believe that God can heal me, but I also believe that I have a responsibility as far as what I put into my body, and also about learning that it is ok to rest. For now, I can work hard for 1-2 days and then I need to rest and recharge. Its all very new, but I am doing what my body needs to heal. Its about wanting my health to be as good as it can so that I am able to do ALL that God has for me to do! Imagine how much more productive we are when we feel good and when our bodies are healthy! My mood has already improved and it feels like the fogginess that hung around my head for so long is disappearing. THANK YOU JESUS!
I didn't mean to go into so much detail, but so many of you have been praying for me and have asked about my health. THANK YOU for your prayers and for you concern! This is definitely a new season for us here in Brazil. We've made few ministry changes and are seeing God connect the dots (like He always does). We have met so many wonderful people and have made some deep meaningful connections. God has blessed us with incredible friends, that feel more and more like family everyday and I am so looking forward to the days and months ahead. Mike's Residency Card was a crucial piece that we were waiting on to proceed with the documentation for SOZO. With that step done, the dream is closer and closer to becoming a reality.
Please keep us in prayer! We love and treasure having each of you in our lives. I cannot thank you guys enough for everything!
Much love,

Débora

Testimony Letters

Testimony message from Bandeira - translated from Portuguese.

In the beginning... some understood it as luck; others thought it was a coincidence, but the fact it that I personality am sure that it was God's work; ....I remember in the beginning the first time that I saw Mr. Michel, his wife and Pr. Marcio; it was at the place that was revitalized by them; I was just getting there to fix a metal chimney at a gazebo that I had built at the place to be used by the residents; they came to me and with Débora's help interpreting their words they told me they had a revitalization project for the area. I got very happy, because only I know how much I had asked other people for help, for at least the minimum to maintain the place in usable condition. I got so excited that after that talk I started spreading what was said to all the people in the neighborhood.
Sincerely, I was not in disbelief because I've always had a lot of faith, even tough it was just a promise from a man that spoke a different language and that I had never seen before in my life. I told all of my friends and many of them did not believe it, others doubted it, and some said that I was lying, but I, in my heart knew that the dream that I had been dreaming for many years was about to be realized and materialized because God heard my prayers and He has always known how much I asked for this blessing. He always knew my limitations, my difficulties and he knew even more about my good will to transform abandoned areas into recreational areas, even without resources. But now something great was about to happen and I believed!

Finally... I thought that these people that they were saying were coming from another land would only be bringing financial resources, and of course it would be essential for the field restoration project; my mistake, they brought a lot more than that; God had prepared something much greater.
It was agreed that some volunteers would come from the US. At the beginning I didn't comprehend, but when they arrived at the community I began to comprehend everything! It was not just going to be a revitalization of an area, but the true motive why those people were coming from so far away also had a different purpose.  The message of gathering the people of a community as family, spreading the need for God in our lives, in all circumstances, to ease the pain of the afflicted and poor through prayer, to rescue souls for heaven, to have solidarity, to be humble and help your neighbor, I understand.
Maybe I didn't see it in the beginning, because of being blinded by arrogance and so I didn't see that they didn't come to gift me, but to gift an entire society with love, and that the restoration of the field would be a way to get to their objectives. To unite all through a social action, a community as a whole, without religious prejudice, without social discrimination and with a lot of humility.
They rescued souls for God; preached the word of the bible and their teachings spread mercy wherever they went, and they exalted God in everything!

For this and a lot more; I am eternally grateful to my American Super Heroes, the ones that I don't see on television or in the movies, but the ones that I feel inside my heart, and this is what I ask of God...that He would bless all of you in all of your missions forever!!!"

First of all I would like to thank God for having placed Pastor Michel and his wife in our lives. Also, Pastor Marcio and his wife. Incredible people, and extremely simple!! In addition to being organized, punctual, they are of a humility beyond normal. Wherever they go they convey love in Christ and hope to the people. I remember the first meeting with Michel and Débora, I felt God's presence. People who are really available to their neighbor!!

The Missions Week had many emotions, wherever the Americans went by, a meeting with Jesus happened. I saw and heard many testimonies of love and gratitude for everything they are doing for our county!!! Every volunteer that came, now is part of our family. The children, teachers and helpers and the board of the Amadeu Carlete Jr School, commented with their families about the American's visit to the school and about the restoration of the play area of the Monte Carlo Lake.
There were a lot of meetings with churches. One of the most special moments was at the Expedicto Camargo Freire School. The youth were impacted with your lives' testimonies. The residents of the Monte Carlo Neighborhood and Region, and the people of the Municipal Chamber and City Hall are witnesses to these moments. There were so many things, that if I were to tell, I would need to write a book, with pages filled with love, solidarity, hope and faith that everything can be better and that all deserve opportunities to do something for their neighbor.

I accompanied Pastor Michel and Débora to the Rainha da Paz Recovery Home. A project that helps men with drug and alcohol addiction. It was moving.
The coordinator, Mr. Gilberto and the men there for treatment were so happy with the grass donation and especially with the visit.

Thank you for everything.
God bless you!!

Sozo Mountain Update

When we arrived back in Brazil July 8th, Michel's Brazilian Residency card was approved and waiting.  PRAISE GOD!

What does this mean?
Now Sozo can formally submit the application for non-profit status in Brazil for the purposes of rescuing Brazil's Orphaned Children.

The Impact of the March Missions Trip is reverberating and is still on going. The city has informed us that they are aware of the plans for Sozo Mountain Children's home and they have offered their full support.

Truly, I believe it was the integrity, kindness and gracious giving of the Mission's team and all those who partnered that gave validity and established credibility in the city's eyes for the work we want to accomplish here.

WHAT A MIRACLE!

Currently, we are in the process of forming a special fund raising team to take on the task of bringing Sozo to reality. Please keep this in your prayers. We will keep you posted.
 Nothing is impossible for God!
