hurricanesFlorida more vulnerable to hurricane catastrophe than ever

Two million more people have taken up residence in Florida since a hurricane last hit in 2005. That growth, concentrated along coastal areas likeliest to be washed away by a storm, means the state is in many ways more vulnerable than ever to catastrophic damage from a tropical hurricane. Elegant homes and high-rise condominiums have sprung up along eroding shorelines in places like Miami Beach, putting billions of dollars in property at risk. Public and private insurance programs would be pushed to the limit by a major storm. Miami-Dade County is arguably the most vulnerable. If a Category 4 storm hit Miami, damage might exceed $125 billion, said spokesman for the National Hurricane Center.

April was the best month for construction employment since January 2014. Additionally, construction industry unemployment fell to 7.5 percent in April—a 2 percent improvement from March. The drop in the construction unemployment rate outpaced the national decline. Across all industries, unemployment fell to 5.4 percent in April from 5.5 percent in March, and employers added 223,000 jobs

Old Bill says...

Why preparation of your roof is important for hurricane season?

Old Bill says Hurricanes are a deadly kind of storm. These devastating winds can cause so much damage especially if your roof was not in perfect condition. Here are some tips you can take to minimize the damage by taking measures to prepare your roof in time.
-Regular roof inspections are very important. When a slight issue is not repaired fast, it can escalate and become very expensive to repair. You need to look for a contractor who will step in and perform a visual inspection of your roof.
-Maintaining your roofing system in order to enhance durability. Maintaining doesn’t have to be expensive. However, for the job to be done in the right way you may need to pay more than what you anticipated. Maintaining your roof gives it a better chance of withstanding the devastating winds of a hurricane.
