Fall is here

In 2019, the autumnal equinox-also called the September equinox or fall equinox-was 9.23.19.

On this day, fall begins in the Northern Hemisphere and spring begins in the Southern Hemisphere.

Wondering what is an equinox? The word "equinox" comes from Latin aequus, meaning "equal," and nox, "night." On the equinox, day and night are roughly equal in terms of length. After the autumnal equinox, the sun is rising later, and nightfall comes sooner.

Be on the lookout for all your seasonal events, foliage changes, sports, pumpkin spice, Halloween, Thanksgiving, day light savings, and more.

Hurricane Dorian Donation Relief Fund

Hurricane Dorian2019 Atlantic hurricane season is June 1, 2019 until November 30, 2019.

Hurricane Dorian was the most powerful tropical cyclone on record to strike the Bahamas, and is regarded as the worst natural disaster in the country's history. It was the fourth named storm, second hurricane, and the first major hurricane of the 2019 Atlantic hurricane season.

We here at Evans Roofing would like to ask the community to help in our efforts to help support and provide relief to those in need by offering donations to the families in the Bahamas.

Protect your home and family by consulting with a licensed, bonded, and insured roofing contractor.

Whether it's an intense thunderstorm or a full-blown hurricane, storms can do a number on your home, especially in the summertime when temperatures are at their hottest. When air and water temperatures rise, storms tend to drop more precipitation and hang around longer.

In order to be fully prepared for your roof to receive all the upcoming rain, one should take precautionary actions and follow these tips:

  • Clean your gutters and downspouts
  • Check your roof for any missing, cracked, or loose shingles/tiles
  • Clean the valley for leaves
  • Trim trees
  • Do maintenance on your flat roof
  • Repair any small leaks

We will keep you posted with weather updates and tips throughout the season.

hurricane preparedness

Strange architecture around the world

The Leaf House in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Located in southern Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the Leaf House by Mareines + Patalano Arquitetura is perfectly suited for the hot and humid climate where it stands. The roof acts as a big leaf that protects the enclosed spaces of the home from the hot sun.

With no corridors, the inside and outside of the Leaf House almost appear to be fused. The verandas and the in-between open spaces allow trade winds from the sea to pass through the building, providing natural ventilation and passive cooling. Rain water is harvested from the roof for re-use.

The architects see the design as low-tech eco-friendly solution that has the greatest impact. When designing the tropical beach house, the architects sought to enhance the interaction between man and nature, instead of separating them completely.
