GREENVILLE, N.C. — Construction related to the BUILD Project is scheduled to close an intersection in the downtown area beginning next week, as two others reopen following work as part of the same project.
The intersection of Evans Street and Fifth Street is scheduled to close to motorists on Monday, March 24, 2025. The closure is expected to be in place for approximately 3-4 months to allow for improvements including wider sidewalks, brick crosswalks, traffic signal upgrades, site furnishings, and street trees.
This closure will follow the reopening of Fifth Street's intersections at Greene Street and Cotanche Street, which are scheduled to take place by the end of the day Friday, March 21.
Motorists attempting to travel north on Evans Street will be detoured onto Reade Circle. Eastbound motorists on Fifth Street can detour onto Washington Street or Reade Circle, while westbound traffic can detour onto Reade Street or Cotanche Street.
Downtown businesses will remain open and accessible, but the block of Evans Street between Fifth Street and Fourth Street will be accessible by pedestrians only during this work.
This construction is part of the $48.5-million Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) Project that began in August 2023. For more information about the BUILD Project, including an updated project timeline and detour routes, visit buildprojects.greenvillenc.gov.
