The Kia Kima 2020 Experience
Welcome to the June 10 issue of The Daily Thunderbird! Today, we are excited to unveil our first in-person programming at Camp Currier, a new knot of the day, added merit badge opportunities, and information about our self-paced Environmental Science merit badge and Cast Iron Chef adventure programs.

It is also Wednesday, the day on which we typically head up to the beautiful Golightly Chapel to practice the twelfth point of the Scout Law: A Scout is reverent. Thanks to Susi Walker, Scoutmaster of Troop 4002, in Cleveland, MS, for the incredible header picture of a chapel sunrise!

In-Person Merit Badges at Camp Currier

We are excited to announce the first in-person merit badges to be offered at Camp Currier, on Saturday, June 20, 2020! There will be two merit badges offered, Leatherwork and Wood Carving, both of which will be offered in the morning (9 a.m.-noon) and in the afternoon (1-4 p.m.), so Scouts can choose one badge in either the morning or afternoon or both for all-day fun!

We will be providing lunch and kits to all participants. The cost to complete one badge is $25.00, and the cost to complete both badges is only $35.00! We will be observing strict social-distancing rules and taking measures to keep all participants safe.
Camp Photo of the Day
Today is Wednesday, the traditional day for vespers services at the Golightly Chapel at Kia Kima Scout Reservation, pictured here. For decades, the chapel has been an inspiring and serene place for campers, staffers, and friends to go to appreciate the amazing views and the handiwork of our Creator. We hope that memories of the chapel and summer camp will bring you joy and peace today.

Knot of the Day: The Sheet Bend

Today, we feature two hands-on opportunities for Scouts to work at home! First, Scouts should check out the Environmental Science resource page to get started on this Eagle-required badge in which there are plenty of experiments and activities to keep you busy! Webelos and Cub Scouts should try the Cast Iron Chef adventure, in which they will learn the ins and outs of planning and cooking a balanced meal on a balanced budget!
Check out the resources we have compiled for the Environmental Science merit badge! This Eagle-required badge will take a lot of effort, but it'll be worth the work! Join Nature Lodge Director James Smythe to learn all about how you can be a great steward of our world!
Join Jack, Josh, and Eli on a cooking adventure! The Scoutcraft guys work to plan a meal, set a budget, buy their food, prepare and cook it safely, and eat it in the Cast Iron Chef video! Webelos Scouts are invited to try it at home (with some help, of course)! Make sure to share your photos!
Remember, for all self-paced programs, Scouts should submit their work to the address. Once we review their work, we will e-mail a blue card, indicating the completed requirements. Cub Scouts parents and guardians can sign off on all Cub Scout adventures, but we would love to see some pictures (e-mail them to!
