February is upon us and with the news in our nation talking about unity, we want to embrace that same sentiment. Many of you have been sharing that times have been tough for you financially. We have included some important information about rent assistance and updates to the eviction moratorium that we hope will help. We want to join with you to provide you with resources and support so your family can thrive. You are the heart of why we do what we do at Neighborhood Connection and you keep us beating with love and inspiration to make positive changes in our community.
Do you have a New Address or Phone Number?

If you have any changes to your household information, please let us know! It is very important to have your current address, phone, and email so that you receive all the important information we send out. If you have some updates to this information, please let a Welcome Desk volunteer know when you come in to shop or contact Stacey
Rental Assistance AND Extended Eviction Moratorium
On January 12th, Dane County and the City of Madison announced their intent to use ~$16.2 million in upcoming federal funds for eviction prevention assistance in the coming months. The details of these funds and the program are still being sorted out at the City/County level, but the Tenant Resource Center will continue to post updates about these funds as they know more.
The eviction moratorium that prevents landlords from evicting tenants has been extended through March 31, 2021. Below is a link for more information.
Shopping Updates and Evening Hours

You can come in to shop, by appointment, any time that we are open – and we are adding evening hours! Starting February 1st, our hours are:

Wednesday | 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM
4th Saturday of the month | 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

For COVID safety, we will continue to limit the number of people allowed in the store, so please be sure to make an appointment online or by calling us at (608)849-5740 prior to coming to shop. You can also find a quick link for shopping appointments on our website. We will also continue to follow all COVID safety protocols that we have had in place.
Reusable Shopping Bags at Neighborhood Connection

We want to be as kind to the environment as possible, so we are going to transition to reusable shopping bags in the store. We will have them available for you to take as well as paper bags. If you take a reusable bag, please bring it in with you each time and/or bring other reusable bags you have at home too. Thanks for helping us be environmentally conscientious!

To qualify for this program, you should live within the service area, be a senior, have a disability, or be low income. Your tax clinic appointment will look a little different this year as we made some changes to address safety during this COVID season. Please call 849-8385 to schedule your document drop-off appointment and to get more information about what to bring to your appointment.
Does Your Child Need a Desk?

We have a new source for desks for kids that are made by volunteers in the community. The desks are made in different sizes to fit the child and include a fun bouncy sitting ball. If you would like to be considered to receive one, please contact Stacey and let her know.
February Holidays

Black History Month

Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Also known as African American History Month, the event grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating Black history.

If you did not get a chance to listen to Amanda Gorman share her poem at the Presidential Inauguration, take a moment to check it out.
Also, UW has some great events celebrating Black History Month.
