The concept of 'sustainability' extends much more broadly than an idea of environmental conservation or stewardship, and includes longer-term social needs and human-environmental balance. Stockton University's Dr. Maritza Jauregui highlighted how post-disaster actors, including humanitarian workers, can think about how their shorter-term efforts integrate into medium- or longer-term impacts not only on the environmental, but social environment. Alexandria Arroyo of Refugee Services of Texas shared her career trajectory including working in Puerto Rico during Hurricane Maria, her move from NYC to Austin in search of career opportunities, and her enrollment in the master's in humanitarian assistance at the University of San Diego. Several participants shared their own careers and work they engage in. Watch the Conversation
