Poll Reveals Barriers to Reentering the Workplace
A recent poll was taken of 506 people who become unemployed during the pandemic.
Key Findings
- Four in 10 Americans who lost their jobs during the pandemic have altered their livelihoods: About a fifth now work part-time, one in 10 have become self-employed, and another one in 10 have retired.
- Half (49%) of Americans who became unemployed during the pandemic say they are not actively or not very actively looking for work; less than a third (32%) report that they are strongly active in their job search.
- Six in 10 respondents (61%) say they are in no hurry to return to work. Three in 10 (30%) say they do not expect to return to work this year, with nearly half of those (13% of the total) saying they never plan to return to work.

We had an amazing time last night at the Lincoln Caverns Business After Hours! The 90th Anniversary celebration included the amazing cakes seen below, catering by Standing Stone Coffee Company, wine from ReKlaimed Vines Winery and Vineyard and tours of the Caverns. The over 60 people in attendance were eligible for the six door prizes provided by Lincoln Caverns. Thank you Ann Dunlavy for the wonderful experience!

July 1 Deadline: Employment Survey
If you've not already done so, please take a moment to complete a brief employment survey created to assess the need for employees and to learn the magnitude of the challenges that you are facing finding people to fill positions. This survey should take less than five minutes. We hope that you take the time to complete it before July 1 so that we can compile the results and share what we have learned with our legislators. Results will also be shared with the PA Chamber of Business and Industry and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, as we work together to strengthen the workforce. An article based on the results will be in a future enews, so that you are aware of the results also.
When responding to the questions, please also share how we can help you promote the opportunities that you have available. If you don’t have your login information so that you can login to the member section of huntingdonchamber.com to post jobs, please let me know and we will get the information to you. You may also email the job information to me at ymartin@huntingdonchamber.com and we will post it for you and share it on the Huntingdon, PA – Promotions & Activities Facebook page.
