DI Participates in Sustainability Task Force

For the past year, Downtown Indiana has been part of the Indiana County Sustainable Economic Development Task Force.

Organized in May 2017, following the Sustainable Economy Summit, the County Commissioners appointed this Task Force in partnership with Evergreen Conservancy, the Center for Community Growth, and League of Women Voters of Indiana County.

In addition to these organizations, the Task Force works with The Borough of Indiana, Indiana University of PA, The Indiana County Conservation District, and the Indiana County Center for Economic Operations, which includes the Indiana County Chamber of Commerce, Indiana County Tourist Bureau, IUP, Indiana County Commissioners, and the Indiana County Development Corporation.

O n Wednesday, May 16, leaders from each of the four focus area groups presented the concepts that their group decided were the priority areas for recommendation in the Task Force’s final report. The four areas are:

  • Renewable Energy Sector
  • Sustainable/Innovative Agriculture
  • Sustainable Building Construction
  • Environmental Restoration and Stewardship

The Steering Committee, chaired by Indiana County Commissioner Sherene Hess, also briefed the group about the next steps for the Task Force, including the creation of the Final Report and some details regarding the next  Indiana County Sustainable Economy Summit  ( to be held Sept. 28 2018 - Save the Date.)

For more information,
including reports from each of the four areas, please visit
