Hello Sourcers! Let’s get right to it, shall we?

🎟️ WSKG Events

🎶 Music on the Delaware

This week, I’d actually like to focus on some of the events that WSKG is putting on, because…well, we’ve got a bunch of ‘em.

Tomorrow night, our Trampoline storytelling series will be in Binghamton at Atomic Tom’s at 7pm. The theme for this one is Mix Tapes. There was some debate whether “mixed tapes” was actually more correct, and by debate I mean our fantastic host Mickie Quinn thinks that’s more correct and I was too gracious to tell her otherwise. If you want to participate, all you have to do is show up, throw your name in the bag, and tell a true story for your chance to win. These events have been steadily building an audience at Atomic Tom’s, and we’re happy to call it our new home in Broome County.

On Tuesday, March 10th at 6pm, we’re holding a screening of a new Masterpiece drama, The Forsytes, at our studios in Vestal as part of our monthly “On Screen at WSKG” series. The Forsytes chronicles the trials and triumphs of a wealthy Victorian stockbroking family, whose generations find themselves torn between tradition and the personal pursuit of happiness. This is a free screening, but we do ask that you pre-register here.

And next Thursday, we’ll be at the Discovery Center in Binghamton at 4pm for Forecast Fest. This is a free event with STEM activities for families, an appearance by Lily Hunter from the new PBS Kids hit Weather Hunters, and all the usual amazing attractions of the Discovery Center!

Finally, I’ve been meaning to find ways to get more music into the mix here at Locally Sourced. With so many shows across the region, it’s beyond me to be anything close to comprehensive, but I did want to point Sourcers to some of the great music series that are happening out there. This week, we’re turning the spotlight on Walton, NY and the Music on the Delaware series. Music on the Delaware runs a monthly coffeehouse series that’s free, along with a ticketed mainstage series. This month, they have the country rock duo Larry Jameeson and Terri Whitney on the coffeehouse stage on March 15th, and Home Again, a tribute to Carole King on the mainstage on March 21st. You can see their whole season schedule here.

What are the stalwart music series you’re frequenting these days, Sourcers? Are you regularly Bound for Glory, or putting down 6 on the Square?

Hope your March is coming in like a lion.

Yours,

Bob Proehl

☕️ Java Journey: Annie’s Place, Newark Valley

This Java Journey is a little different — because this time, I had some help.

I’ve visited Annie’s Place on Water Street in Newark Valley before while out in the area for outreach, but it had been a little while. Meanwhile, my co-worker Chris DiRienzo drives by this adorable little spot every single day on his way into work… and had never stopped. Clearly, that needed to change.

So Chris was kind enough to swing into Annie’s on his way to the station and grab me a coffee — teamwork at its finest.

Now, I opted for something rare: a hot coffee. Yes, you read that right. As you all know, 99% of the time I drink iced coffee. As a mom of two, my coffee never stays warm long enough to actually enjoy it. I just end up reheating it over and over again. But with what feels like our third winter here in Binghamton, today was the perfect excuse for something warm — especially since I could actually sit at my desk and drink it peacefully while it was still hot.

Chris sent me their coffee options for the day, and I chose Love Buzz — described as bold and intense with flavors of molasses, toasted marshmallow, and walnut. I was intrigued. I usually gravitate toward lighter roasts, but those flavor notes caught my attention.

And I am so glad they did.

Love Buzz was rich and cozy without being overpowering. The molasses gave it a deep, slightly sweet warmth, the toasted marshmallow added a smooth, almost creamy softness, and the walnut rounded everything out with a subtle nuttiness. It felt like a hug in a mug — exactly the warm pick-me-up I needed.

And the best part? Someone else got to experience Annie’s Place too. Chris was greeted by the same friendly, inviting staff that makes this little café feel so welcoming every time you walk in. It’s one of those spots where you’re met with genuine smiles and small-town warmth the moment you step through the door.

I didn’t splurge on a baked good this time (self-control was strong today), but trust me — when you visit, make sure you grab one of their delicious homemade treats. They never disappoint.

Annie’s Place proves that sometimes the best coffee experiences aren’t just about what’s in the cup — they’re about community, kindness, and maybe convincing your co-worker to finally stop at that cute place they pass every day.

Until next time… ☕️
