Greetings from Friends of Connect Buncombe
Message from the President
Dear Friend,

As we enter summer and our annual sponsorship and giving drive, Friends of Connect Buncombe would like to thank the community for their overwhelming support.  We also want to thank our wonderful board and all the people who are helping our completely volunteer-led organization make a difference.

Just a few years ago, I remember when a small group of "avid" greenway enthusiasts decided to launch this organization. We knew this couldn't happen overnight. Each of us threw in a few hundred dollars, insane amounts of time, and personal dedication to start the journey. Our dream was big. We wanted to "Make Greenways Happen."

We understood there needed to be a vision to connect all of Buncombe county via greenways and trails.  Due to an often changing political environment and the cost of building greenways, we knew that we needed to not only be advocates, but also raise funds to serve as a catalyst and help move projects forward in all of our community. Simply put, we wanted to make Buncombe County a better place for the people who live and work here. Having graduated from high school here over 30 years ago, I can say, we have made some progress; yet, to truly have a community connected with bike and pedestrian infrastructure that makes it easy for people of all ages and abilities to get around, we all have to join in this mission and help out. Only by working together can we create change.

To date, we have directly funded over $65,000 in assistance to local projects or partner organizations as well as starting creating tools for outreach and advocacy. We've built momentum and this year have set goals to keep moving forward. As we continue to emerge as a solid nonprofit, we are committed to:
  • Moving forward greenway projects by leveraging dollars raised and directly funding projects in Buncombe County (the more we raise, the more we can do!);
  • Expanding our membership, outreach, and education events including greenway walks, educational talks, and volunteer opportunities;
  • Developing strategies and programs to help all of our collaborative greenway partners.
Please join us in our vision by supporting Friends of Connect Buncombe.  Below you will find information about upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, matching donations, and ways you can help spread the word about Friends of Connect Buncombe.  At the end of this email, you will find our recently release Benefits of Greenway video.

Wishing you all a wonderful summer.  Enjoy!
