55 Alive Driver Refresher Course

The 55 Alive course is designed to help drivers aged 55 and older maintain their independence and confidence on the road while improving their driving skills.


Through this interactive program, you will:

  • Feel safer behind the wheel
  • Improve social ties help us stay healthy and joyful
  • Update yourself on traffic laws and new technology
  • Know how to react to the actions of other drivers
  • Identify bad driving habits
  • Voice your concerns in a friendly and relaxed environment


This is a 2-day course, and participants must attend both days to receive a certificate.



More Than Four Walls: Age Friendly Housing Builds Connections and Community

In the fall of 2023, the Age Friendly Housing Committee launched the Community Conversations Initiative to provide a space for older adults in Ottawa to talk about their housing needs. The initiative involved gathering data through community conversations, and a survey and encouraging people to become more engaged in advocating for their housing needs.


This forum provides the highlights of what we heard and what we need to advance age-friendly housing options that are affordable and accessible in Ottawa.

Twentieth Century Canadian History through the Magic of Radio

with Laurence Wall (formerly of CBC Radio)

"Twentieth Century Canadian History through the Magic of Radio" looks at great events of the last century that radio helped bring to life. They range from the well-known (Second World War) to the long forgotten (1936 Moose River Mine Disaster). Radio proved to be the ideal medium for a country with a vast land mass but a relatively small population.

This English presentation looks at those 20th century events using slides and historic audio from each event.


This presentation is filled with nostalgia for a bygone era along with some of the characteristic humour that Laurence brought to CBC Radio listeners for many years.
