School Spotlight: Zion Lutheran School - Terra Bella, California |
Zion Lutheran School is one of the oldest Lutheran schools in the CNH District. Zion Lutheran Church started in 1909 and the school was added just a year later in 1910. They are nestled in the orange groves a few miles outside of Porterville, California.
Zion is unique in a number of ways. First, it is the only rural school in the CNH District. Second, Zion is basically a two-room schoolhouse for students from Kindergarten through grade 6: K-3 in one classroom and 4-6 in the other room. Additionally, they are also a fairly small school with just 17 students this year. Due to their size, they can meet as an entire school for devotions at the start of each day!
The pastor (and principal), Jacob Dandy, is a strong leader for the school, leading devotions and teaching religion classes. Besides Pastor Dandy, there are two other full-time teachers who are both new to Zion this year. The church community are very proud of their school ministry and the history that it has in the overall community. We celebrate the history and Gospel work of Zion Lutheran School!

LCEF and CUWAA Offering Certificate in Management Scholarship |
LCEF, in partnership with Concordia University, Wisconsin/Ann Arbor (CUWAA), is launching a new cohort with 10 scholarship seats available. This cohort, which will include individuals working in the faith-based not-for-profit space (not only LCMS rostered workers), will be offered via the online self-paced program. Unlike the current cohort of 25 rostered workers, doing live courses, this opportunity will offer additional flexibility.
Like the current cohort, LCEF is providing a significant scholarship opportunity getting them through the Certificate in Management. The attached flier includes a live link with all the necessary information, including the scholarship application. Again, we are only providing 10 scholarships for this cohort which begins in January 2024. Application deadline is November 15.
