Does your research potentially use Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorting (FACS)? 


Manne Research Institute is considering the purchase of a FACS device as a shared instrument. Please join us for a presentation by representatives of BD Biosciences today at 11:00 a.m. for an overview of the available line of BD Biosciences Flow Cell Sorters. The BD representatives will be able to answer any questions you might have about the technical capabilities of their instruments.

The Leadership Listening Exchange is a new opportunity to join Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute leadership to share ideas, ask questions, and engage in dialogue. Each session will be hosted by Pat Seed, President and Chief Research Officer, and Brenda Paulsen, Chief Operating Officer, and include representation by different pillar or area leaders. Coffee will be served.


Registration is required for each session, limited to a maximum of 10 participants, and will be first come, first served. When you register you will also have the opportunity to submit a question or topic.

Galter Library & Learning Center: Open Registration for Classes  

Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine’s Galter Health Sciences Library & Learning Center is offering classes listed below. Manne Research Institute faculty and staff will want to note the upcoming office hours and session on NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy. 


All times are CT. Click on the class links for descriptions and to register. Classes fill up quickly and registration is recommended. Classes meet for approximately one hour and are free to affiliates of the Galter Health Sciences Library & Learning Center. Many of the classes are available by request to Feinberg School of Medicine faculty, staff, students, and residents. For a complete list of available classes, click here. Galter Health Sciences Library & Learning Center services and resources are available to Lurie Children’s researchers with a Feinberg faculty appointment.

Corning Life Sciences Presents Advanced 3D Models for Cancer Applications


Join representatives from Corning Life Sciences at 11 a.m. on February 14 as they discuss how their Matribot Bioprinter and Matrigel and other bio-inks support work on advanced 3D models for cancer applications. Sign Up to Workshop Your Research Ideas at the 4I's Sessions

Initiate, Inquire, Innovate, Inspire (4I’s) sessions span our four pillars as a space for individuals across the research institute (faculty, trainees, and research professionals) to workshop their research ideas and works in progress and gain exposure to new skills and methods. Interested presenters can sign up for a 15-minute spot using this shared spreadsheet.

Manne Research Institute REAL Trainings


The Office of Research Development hosts monthly Research Education at Lurie Children’s (REAL) Training lectures on a variety of domains and topics including, but not limited to, study management and conduct, financial considerations in research, research data, research regulatory requirements, available resources, and more. Sessions occur twice a month, virtually through Microsoft Teams and welcome all investigators and staff.

Undergraduate students are invited to apply for our Katz and Manne Research Institute Summer Scholars Program, providing summer experiences in research related to child health and disease. Through the ongoing generosity of the Robert Louis Katz Medical Research Foundation and Manne Research Institute, we offer participants competitive, paid research opportunities, mentored by investigators located in our biomedical campus in Chicago. VIEW ALL OPEN RESEARCH POSITIONS

Clinical Research Manager, Neurology


Provides leadership, strategic management, and administration for the clinical and translational research program of the Division of Neurology. Supervises and manages the research staff in the division. Serves as the key operational interface between the funding agencies, research center, research team and principal investigators. This position will be responsible for the management and oversight of pre-award and post award activities relating to sponsored research studies for the Division in conjunction with Office of Sponsored Programs. This includes preparing research budgets, contract negotiations and post award management. This position will also perform functions of a clinical research coordinator for a proportion of divisional studies. Works with a multidisciplinary team of physicians and staff to maintain an environment that encourages customer service and promotes employee satisfaction. Models and supports the principles of good clinical practice with the research team. Learn more or apply.

Grant Specialist, Office of Sponsored Programs


This position will be responsible for the management and oversight of pre-award activities relating to federal, industry and foundation sponsored research studies for multiple Divisions in conjunction with OSP. This includes assisting principal investigators in budget preparation, proposal development, award negotiation and non-financial post-award management. This position will work with the division administrator to ensure compliance with funding agency, Stanley Manne Children’s Research Institute, and Lurie Children’s policies and guidelines. Provides training and education to other research staff related to external funding sources, development of quality proposals, and reporting requirements and will be expected to make recommendations to investigators and research staff on process improvement to create and/or maintain practices and procedures such as maintenance of an awards database, review of requirements for performance reports or grant renewals and refinement of current sponsored research practices to enhance the research enterprise. NUCATS Voucher Award Program Accepting Applications


The NUCATS Voucher Award program is designed to provide up to $2,500 to assist investigators in developing resources and/or preliminary data to facilitate hypothesis-driven research initiatives. The fund is intended for projects involving critical steps in the device and drug development pathway and projects that address a critical need in translational science that are too small to be suitable for conventional internal or external funding mechanisms.

  

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and funding decisions are typically communicated to applicants within five business days. Details about the program, including funding priorities, eligibility criteria, program expectations, and allowable expenses, are available on the Voucher Awards page.
