The Women's and Gender Studies Program at Boston College is an interdisciplinary minor for undergraduate students that richly explores feminist and gender theories in relation to the political, cultural, and socioeconomic forces shaping our world. Through a global and transnational perspective, the program investigates the dynamic interplay between gender and other factors affecting our personal and communal identities, including race, class, culture, religion, sexuality, and location.

The Volunteer Engagement Manager is a new role at SWSG Boston. It is designed to tap into the incredible potential of adult volunteer engagement in our intergenerational mentoring model. After 16 years of programming in Greater Boston, the SWSG Boston team is reviewing all program components to prepare for strategic and responsible growth. In order to grow effectively, SWSG needs to solidify the Strong Leaders Network and other adult volunteer opportunities to more effectively engage professional women in our mission delivery and to secure the needed resources for growth. Despite the wide array of professional women interested in supporting our work, we have not fully realized the potential of this community because we have not had adequate staff capacity to serve professional women.

Boston Women's Fund
is always seeking the assistance of passionate volunteers for long and short term assignments. Volunteering at BWF can give you an opportunity to engage directly in the critical work of improving the lives of vulnerable women and girls. We are a social justice organization with a mission to end racial and economic injustice. We give grants to grass roots organizations led by women and girls who work tirelessly to improve their communities. We also sponsor programs to train female leaders and the next generation of activists.
Now more than ever, we need you to speak up and join a powerful movement of women and girls working to bring about lasting change.

Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH)
Reporting to, and working closely with, the Director and Center leadership, the Program Manager will be responsible for the coordination and management of the Center’s portfolio of clinical research studies, under the guidance of the principal investigators for individual scientific investigations. Additionally, the Program Manager will be responsible for coordinating grant submissions, financial oversight, and other Center-wide administrative and regulatory activities.

"It is an honor to receive the Janet Wilson James award from the Women’s and Gender Studies Program. Since I began my BC journey, I have had the opportunity to volunteer at Rosie’s Place, a women’s soup kitchen and shelter in Roxbury, conduct research about the shift in gender dynamics in Rwanda post-genocide, and be an activist for the promotion of female empowerment on and off campus.
My submission to the department was original research I conducted in Kigali, Rwanda during my semester abroad. After the 1994 Genocide, Rwanda faced a massive gender imbalance which forced their female dominated population to acquire new jobs and roles in reestablishing the country. Now, Rwanda has the highest number of women in Parliament in the world at 64%. Through interviewing Rwandese female leaders, men, and college-aged women I was able to understand this shift and analyze current ideologies on gender equality. As both a woman and a person of color, I strive to use my education and the opportunities afforded to me to promote the voices of those who are so often silenced."
