EVENTS FOR ADULTS
There's a long list of library activities and storytimes for kids, but what about events for adults? We have a few great programs coming up this month.

Today is Senior Citizens Day! In celebration of the older adults in our community, Parks, Recreation and Community Services is hosting a Community Zoom Day on Wednesday August 23. Enjoy a full day of free online activities designed for seniors on zoom. We've also compiled this reading list.

On August 29 at 7pm, we are thrilled to host Pamela Rose and the cast of Blues is a Woman. Rose's Blues is a Woman blurs the boundaries between concert and theater, using storytelling, rare film footage, and music to bring to life the colorful history of the bold and singular women who wrote and popularized the blues.

NEWS FROM THE FOUNDATION
Time is Running out for Pub Crawl Early Bird Tickets

A reminder that the last day to purchase early bird tickets for the Redwood City Library Foundation 2nd Annual Upscale Pub Crawl is September 8. Early bird tickets save $10 and also entitle you to a free Pub Crawl t-shirt.

The Pub Crawl has three goals for attendees:
  • To support important Redwood City Public Library initiatives, including future Makerspace enhancements in the new Downtown Library Park.
  • To recognize the importance of 2023 Banned Books Week (October 1-7), at a time when the number of book challenges has nearly doubled from the previous year, predominantly targeting young readers and race or LGBTQ+ topics.
  • To enjoy a fun night out with friends and neighbors while supporting the unique drinking establishments in downtown Redwood City with a discounted libation.

It's a win/win event: supporting your local libraries, increasing awareness of threats to the freedom to read, and having fun while supporting local businesses. You can get bargain tickets here through September 8.
