Celebrate with our Refugee Families
You're invited to join RAFT (Refugee Assistance and Friendship Teams) and the refugee families our church has assisted for a picnic potluck after church on Sunday, March 24. Spend the afternoon enjoying food and fun at the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park. Sign up to bring a dish to share or donate to provide tickets to our guests so they can ride the train and carousel.
Pastor's Message

  Dear Friend in Faith,

Failure is hard for any of us. Whether it happens at work, in our relationships, the things we try as leaders, it can be a difficult yet valuable lesson for us. What happens when we fail in our faith? It is always intriguing to me how the gospels show the disciples in their failure and shortcomings. They often show us how best not to be a disciple of Jesus. The Gospels give us a very honest look at those trying to be faithful who sometimes fall flat on their faces. I’m grateful for these stories since all of us make mistakes.

We’ll be looking this Sunday at Peter. He is the first disciple. He leaves everything to follow Jesus. He becomes Jesus’ right hand. He sees Jesus as the messiah and Jesus subsequently sees Peter as the “rock” on which to build the church. But a shadow of failure and cowardice looms over Peter. When Jesus is arrested, Peter follows closely to see what will happen to this man he sees as the promised one of God. Peter is put to the test, accused of being a follower of Jesus and he denies it all, turns his back on Jesus without hesitation.

We, too, will stand where Peter stood. God gives us opportunities to be faithful, to occasionally take a courageous stand for what we believe and what God wants for our world. Will we choose to do all that God has asked or...

Donations for and Tickets to the Youth Missions Dinner & Auction
The youth are preparing for their annual Mission Dinner & Auction Sunday, March 31 . Please buy tickets to the dinner online and donate items for the auction by March 20. Themed gift baskets, tickets to sporting events, theater or concert tickets, spa packages, hotel stays, vacation packages, food & wine, tourist experiences, gift certificates, restaurant vouchers, or local services would all be appreciated. Ticketed Piano Concert - March 30
On Saturday, March 30, the church is hosting a ticketed piano concert featuring Pianist Paul Shaw in support of the PVUMC Piano Fund.

In “Old Meets New,” Shaw will perform works by Beethoven, Schumann, Adderley and Ginastera.

Tickets are $15 for adults; students and seniors pay $10.

Rummage Sale Donations Begin
The annual Caring Kids Rummage Sale is April 6-7, 2019 and the kids will have a sorting day on Sunday. Please donate gently used children's clothing, books, toys, DVDs, sporting equipment, games and room decor in the bins on campus through March 31 . Proceeds from the sale will go toward the purchase of a new church van.

Potluck Celebration for Refugees Sunday, March 24
PVUMC families are invited to join us for a Potluck Picnic Celebration for refugee families sponsored by RAFT (Refugee Assistance and Friendship Teams). Join us
12:30-3:30 pm at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park, 7301 E Indian Bend Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85250.

Sign up to let us know you’re coming and what you’re bringing for the potluck. We'll provide hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken, cooked on the grill at the Papago Ramada at the park.

Help us treat our refugee families by bringing side dishes or desserts and buying train and carousel ride tickets. Invite your family, neighbors, and friends as we welcome the stranger at our first PVUMC Serves event!

God's Love in Action in Guatemala
PVUMC has sent a medical mission team to Guatemala every year for the past 13 years. They're in country now and grateful for your donations of eyeglasses as well as financial support to buy medicine, school supplies and other items to help the Guatemalan people. We've shared their news and photos on the church Facebook page nearly every day this week and will share again on Monday. Visit the page to see the growing album of smiling faces.They are indeed God's love in action!

You're Invited to a Mingus Mountain Camp Encounter
Mark your calendar to join us for an evening of Mingus Mountain Camp experiences benefiting the Children and Youth Scholarship Fund on Thursday, April 4, 7-8:30 pm in Kendall Hall at Central United Methodist Church. A Day at Camp Mingus will include a campfire, stories, skits and s'mores! Help us send 100 kids to camp for a week this summer. Donate at the event or hit the donate button at the camp website.
