SPS prepares for kickoff of 417 Reads 📚

SPS held mentor trainings and assembled book boxes in preparation for the launch of 417 Reads.

On Sept. 30, SPS will launch 417 Reads, a districtwide initiative dedicated to expanding access to books, strengthening instructional practices and making literacy a priority across Springfield. Once a month, members of the community will visit every third and fourth grade classroom in the district and read a book aloud. Each student will then receive a copy of the book to take home. To prepare for the launch, mentors participated in trainings and SPS volunteers and students assembled more than 3,000 book boxes.

I Choose SPS: Melissa Mooney, Employment Coordinator

"Throughout my career, I’ve often fought the misconception that HR is only here to enforce rules or handle the hard stuff. While mitigating risk and maintaining policy are essential parts of what we do, our primary mission is to provide meaningful support and take care of our people. That support takes many forms—from guiding someone through a position change to celebrating a personal or professional milestone. The HR team at Springfield Public Schools cares deeply about every individual here. We laugh, celebrate, and sometimes even cry alongside them. At the end of the day, nothing brings us more joy than watching our employees and their families thrive."
