Essentia Health expands vaccine-scheduling options
Non-patients now can self-schedule through MyChart
Essentia Health is making it more convenient than ever for our patients and non-patients alike to receive their COVID-19 vaccine.
Residents of Minnesota, North Dakota and Wisconsin who meet their state’s current eligibility criteria can schedule a vaccination appointment one of two ways. First, appointments can be scheduled quickly and easily through MyChart, our online patient portal. A new upgrade allows everyone, including non-patients, to sign up for MyChart and schedule a vaccination. Previously, MyChart was only available to individuals who had received care at Essentia Health.
“We are pleased to partner with our communities by providing self-service options accessible through MyChart,” said Dr. Sarah Manney, Essentia’s chief medical information officer. “Non-Essentia patients will now be able to schedule a COVID test or vaccine and receive virtual urgent care through our on-demand services.”
Patients and community members also can call Essentia at (833) 494-0836 to ask about scheduling a vaccine. If they meet their state’s eligibility criteria, callers will be scheduled for their immunization.
Please note that both methods require that you meet your state’s vaccination-eligibility criteria. Also, appointments are dependent on vaccine supply at each location.
State-specific information for vaccine eligibility can be found at the following links:
To sign up for MyChart, visit EssentiaHealth.org and click on the MyChart button in the upper right-hand corner; then click “sign up.” There is also a MyChart app for smart devices.
If you fit into your state’s eligibility criteria and want to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, please utilize one of these scheduling options.
All three vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson) have undergone highly rigorous testing by the Food and Drug Administration that has ensured their safety, and millions of people now have received vaccines worldwide. They are proven to be highly effective, and individuals who are eligible are encouraged to receive any vaccine offered to them.
Additional information regarding the COVID-19 vaccine can be found by visiting EssentiaHealth.org and clicking on the “vaccine distribution” link at the top of the page.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR – March 29, 2021
Dear Community Members,
Across the country, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to have devastating effects. Here at CHI St. Joseph’s Health, we have felt the pain and loss in our own community. We’ve supported families who have been affected and mourned those we have lost.
In the last week we have seen a recent uptick in COVID-19 cases in Hubbard County and encourage everyone to do their part to help move us closer to ending the pandemic. The rollout of the vaccine provides a new hope and vaccine is now available to anyone 16 and older.
We want everyone in our community to be safe and get back to hugging our families and friends and shaking hands with our neighbors. Getting the COVID-19 vaccine adds one more layer of protection for you, your family, and your loved ones. Here are some key points about the COVID-19 vaccine:
  • All COVID-19 vaccines currently available in the United States are very effective at preventing the disease.
  • The most common side effects are pain in the arm where you got the shot, feeling tired, headache, body aches, chills, and fever.
  • Stopping a pandemic requires using all the tools we have available—wearing masks, staying at least 6 feet apart from people who don’t live with you, avoiding crowds and poorly ventilated spaces, washing your hands frequently, and getting vaccinated.
We all play a part in this effort, and you are key. Please sign up to get your COVID-19 vaccination at https://chisjh.org/coronavirus/vaccine-clinic-information/ . COVID-19 vaccine clinics are being offered weekly through CHI St. Joseph’s Health Community Health. We encourage you to monitor our Facebook page and website for the most recent updates.
If you have questions about vaccination clinics in Hubbard County, please contact CHI St. Joseph’s Health Community Health at 218.237.5464.

St. Paul – Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) Commissioner Steve Grove and Deputy Commissioner Hamse Warfa held a virtual roundtable on Friday, March 19 focused on the impact of the pandemic on youth jobs. The discussion was attended by employers across the state and is part of a push to place more young people into great jobs this coming summer.

The roundtable is part of a broader series of discussions the agency is hosting called “The Next Minnesota Economy,” focusing on inclusive economic growth, reskilling our labor market and creating good jobs.

“We want to help employers enable a surge in hiring more young people this summer,” said DEED Commissioner Steve Grove. “It’s not just important for their careers, it’s important for our economy overall to get young people working.”

“Participation from the business community, community providers and government is what it will take to provide young people with the opportunities they deserve,” said DEED Deputy Commissioner for Workforce Development Hamse Warfa. “As we think of inclusive economic recovery, it’s important that we center around equity, so that communities hit hardest are on the front end of receiving services.”

Young Minnesotans have been particularly hard hit by pandemic-related job losses. In January 2021, the unemployment rate for Minnesota teens (16-19-year-olds) was 13.8% as compared to 7.6% in January 2020. There was a large decline in the number of teenagers employed in Minnesota, from 132,900 in January 2020 to 117,800 in January 2021. In addition, the total number of teenagers in the labor force declined, from 143,800 available workers in January 2020 to 136,700 workers in January 2021, the smallest teen labor force since 2016.

Friday’s discussion built on earlier youth roundtables, which surfaced ways to maximize the skills that young Minnesotans bring to the table, including leveraging their unique perspectives on everything from social media strategy to membership on company boards. The previous discussion also raised the importance of finding ways to continue to engage youth during and even beyond their summer job or internship.

Youth job programs are an important part of youth employment in Minnesota, and many of these programs are provided by DEED grantees throughout Minnesota. DEED has set a goal with partners of placing 6,000 youth in jobs or internships through these youth programs this upcoming summer. READ MORE
