A plan to ensure Park Rapids Area Schools continue growing and thriving
Through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s become clear that school buildings are the best places for students to learn and engage with teachers, staff, and peers. As we look to the future of Park Rapids Area Schools, we want to ensure our buildings and classrooms are designed and equipped to help students succeed into the next decade and beyond.

Join us as we discuss the need, the process, the plan and the cost of Project 309 with Superintendent, Lance Bagstad.

Fishing Report
Mid-winter fishing is in full swing.

In a few weeks, things will begin to change rapidly. But for now, think deeper water for more consistent walleye and crappie fishing. The deep basins are full of crappies creating good day time bites in the 25-40ft depth range using small minnows or tiny jigging spoons tipped with a minnow head. Walleyes are being caught off of mid lake structure like sunken islands that top off in the 25/30 ft. range. White jigging spoons or a gold JB weasel jigging spoon tipped with a minnow head will do the trick. Bluegills are stacked up on steep shoreline breaks with an old weed line. Look for them suspended just outside the break using your electronics such as a Vexilar. Nothing beats a tiny jig like a Lindy Worm tipped with a waxie. Neutral colors work the best on these observant fish.

With Presidents Day weekend and Valentines’ Day on the calendar, head north where Peace and Calm preside. Their cabinet members are Quiet, Beauty and Recreation.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources updates snow and trail conditions in weekly reports posted after 2 p.m. every Thursday at www.dnr.state.mn.us/snow_depth/index.html. Be sure to check ice depths and use caution, but anglers are out and the catch is on. DNR ice thickness guidelines are at https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/safety/ice/thickness.html. Check with bait shop owners or neighbors to find out where the ice is safe and the best spots to snag a fresh catch.
The Visitor Center lobby at Itasca State Park is open. exploring the park’s winter wonders always brings peace and calm.
