For 25 years, Everybody Wins DC has been guided by a simple yet powerful belief: shared reading can change a child’s life for the better. By building connections over books, EWDC helps children build the skills they need to thrive in the classroom, their community, and beyond.

In a normal school year, EWDC would be delivering its shared reading programs to over a thousand students inside classrooms, libraries, and cafeterias across our 12 partner schools in DC and Virginia. But school year 2020-2021 will be nothing close to normal. Yet even with all the changes, one thing remains the same – our students still need our support. Maybe now more than ever.

Below please find a preview of all the exciting new shared reading opportunities and experiences we have planned for SY20-21.
EWDC is Going Virtual!
Core programs you have come to know and love Power Lunch and StoryTime – will be 100 percent virtual. But wait, there is more! We are launching a new set of shared reading experiences to keep children and families connected and engaged while learning from home. Near, far, wherever you are, our programs will be accessible to YOU!
A New and Improved Power Lunch!

Since EWDC’s beginning, the Power Lunch program has connected caring volunteers with students to read together during students’ lunch and recess period. But with everything that has happened this year, offering support only during lunchtime just isn’t enough.

Starting in SY20-21, EWDC is expanding the program beyond our traditional lunch hour so that we can bring the power of shared reading to more students and at times that better align with families’ needs. To reflect this change, Power Lunch will now be known as Power Readers! The name might be different, but the goal remains the same: mentors and kids, enjoying quality time connecting over a book.
New Shared Reading Opportunities for SY20-21

To help meet the emerging needs of children, families, and school communities across the DC area, EWDC is introducing several new shared reading programs in SY20-21: Student Book Clubs, Family Workshops, and Expert and Student Learning Communities.

These opportunities and experiences will offer supportive, fun, and informative ways to stay engaged through reading while learning from home.
Flexible Programming

Power Readers and all of our programs will be offered beyond lunchtime to best meet the needs of families – including after school. This flexible schedule will allow students to participate at times that are more convenient, providing greater support for our schools as they look to provide families with a balanced distance learning plan. And, as always, our programs will be FREE for students and families for SY20-21 school year.

Thank you for your continued support of EWDC! With so many new programs and experiences lined up, we can’t wait to get started on another wonderful year of shared reading! More details about our SY20-21 program plan will be provided in the weeks to come.

In the meantime, please feel free to contact us at or (202) 216-9467 if you have any questions or want to learn how you can join our work for the upcoming school year.
