Summertime Recap
What a busy and fun summer it has been! Our residents have enjoyed a variety of daily programming, holiday events, and Winston Salem outings. We look forward to the upcoming fall season. Keep an eye out on our Calendar boards for updates about this season’s festivities!
Save The Date!
Thursday, October 6th
Annual Harvest Moon Fall Festival
Residents, families, and staff are invited to celebrate the Fall season at our upcoming Harvest Moon Festival. Families are encouraged to attend and walk around the festival with their loved ones. The festivities will be hosted outdoors in the back parking lot area behind the Strickland Place and Asbury building. Enjoy live bluegrass music, fresh apple pastries and cider, local artisans, a fall market, and much more!
Outings with Life Enrichment
So far, we have enjoyed outings to local restaurants to enjoy Greek and Italian food. Pictured above is the group that joined us on an outing to a Yadkin Valley winery for a tasting earlier this summer!
Seasonal Bird Watching
One of the activities I introduced this summer was bird watching. We look forward to gathering together in the afternoons to watch the birds and take a golf cart nature ride through campus. It was great to have the chance to get out for fresh air and some summer sunshine.
Exercise Programming Update
Since starting as Life Enrichment Coordinator of Asbury Place, Holly's biggest goal has been to increase the variety of physical programs we offer. So far, we have enjoyed chair yoga, chair Zumba, and our next adventure will be trying Bocce Ball!
Christmas in July
In July, we celebrated a new holiday, Christmas in July, with tropical Christmas decorations to get everyone in the spirit. “Reindeer Rance” came around and visited with residents as a fun surprise. We also had a Reggae Christmas Music program, and the Winston Salem Kona Ice Truck came by with snow cones for staff and residents. It was a great day filled with Holiday fun!
Care Baskets
During our Covid precautions this summer, we delivered a “Covid Care Basket” to each of our residents. Some of the things we included were playing cards, activity brain games, colored pencils, hand sanitizers, puzzles, positive quotes, and candy to brighten up their days!
Floral Arranging
A brand new activity we enjoyed this summer was flower arranging. This has been a wonderful new hobby enjoyed by many. The new arrangements we've made have brightened up our building!
Ice Cream Truck Visits
While under Covid restrictions our Life Enrichment team went door to door the whole week with special deliveries to help lift the spirits of our residents. Other treats offered included popcorn, wine and cheese, donuts, and cookies! Each day during that week had a different treat and the residents truly enjoyed getting a special delivery to look forward to.
Monday Sing-Alongs
Art Bloom returned for sing-alongs after we were approved to move forward following Covid restrictions. Our residents were thrilled to have him back on Monday afternoons. With so many familiar tunes, our residents can’t help but jump up and dance to the music!
Resident Art Projects
Residents have enjoyed a variety of art projects this season with our art teacher, Cindy. We look forward to seeing what fun projects she has for us each week. Cindy does a wonderful job introducing different project ideas and mediums to work with.
