Rolling Out Vanguard Incarcerated Press
In the past month, the Vanguard has launched Vanguard Incarcerated Press, which features hard-hitting accounts by incarcerated people of the conditions in our prisons and the state of our criminal legal system.
We are bringing on author, teacher and activist Joan Parkin to run the program.
Parkin has an amazing history, recently working as an educator who has helped to direct incarcerated student programs. She was also a driving force in Chicago twenty years ago focusing attention on the Death Penalty 10 which lead Governor George Ryan to end the death penalty in Illnois.
We also had the pleasure of interviewing a couple of UC Santa Barbara students who went from formerly incarcerated to scholars who are on the verge of getting their college degrees.
Two representatives from the UC Santa Barbara Gaucho Underground Scholars Program joined Everyday Injustice this week, sharing their amazing stories of going from incarcerated to scholars, and the challenges of being a formerly incarcerated student and why such support programs are so vital.

Our podcast has been expanding as we continue to bring in top notch guests.
Here are some top articles from Vanguard Incarcerated Press:
We also have three ongoing student publications -
Vanguard at UC Davis
People’s Vanguard of Los Angeles
Vanguard at Berkeley
All of this gets to the bottom line. The Vanguard is a non-profit and depends on ongoing support from people like you.
