Recovery Coaches Help Curb Addiction
Drug deaths are rising faster than ever, devastating families across the country—and the situation is getting much worse. Last year, it's estimated that the opioid epidemic accounted for 59,000 deaths. While everyone from members of Congress to prevention groups are grappling with ways to get the problem under control, a number of communities are turning to peer support specialists and recovery coaches to assist behavioral health professionals and communities curb the epidemic.
These peer support specialists recruit other community members to become recovery coaches, to help those with addiction. They are living proof recovery is possible, serving as a role model, mentor and educator, among many other things.
Turnaround Life and our partners at Recovery All serve as hosts to peer recovery coach training workshops. For more information about the workshops, contact us on our website. You can also read more about how recovery coaches are changing the healing landscape here.

Partner Spotlight: Louisiana Department of Corrections
Inmates released from state prisons often return to prison within five years. The recidivism rate in the U.S. is 76.6 percent. Shocking? Yes! But, there’s a reason for it. Oftentimes prisoners lack the basic skills they need to thrive within a community so they turn to behavior that lands them back behind bars.
The Louisiana Department of Corrections (LDC) is doing its part to keep inmates from returning to jail by helping them obtain the skills they need to sustain themselves and become productive members of a community. The LDC developed programs to educate inmates, teach them job skills, offer substance abuse treatment and teach them faith-based values that are key to adjusting in a society.
With a focus on public safety and rehabilitation, LDC is changing the way we think about reintegration and rehabilitative strategies in the criminal justice system. And, we’re helping them evaluate their programs to ensure they’re having the most impact on offenders and public safety. Congrats to the LDC for providing opportunities to inmates. We’re proud to support and assist them every step of the way.
