Ray-Pec Community,

This past Monday was an especially great day! Not only was it the start of Teacher Appreciation Week, but it was also the day that we honored two outstanding staff members.
As you may have heard by now, Mr. Todd Schnake was selected as the 2021 Ray-Pec Teacher of the Year, and Ms. Amanda Reed was selected as the 2021 Support Staff Employee of the Year. Mr. Schnake is a 30-year veteran of the district and teaches Speech and Theatre at the high school. Ms. Reed has been with the district for five years and serves as Child Nutrition manager at Eagle Glen. Both honorees are incredibly well-deserving and were selected from a very strong pool of finalists. Congrats to both Mr. Schnake and Ms. Reed! Take a moment to view the Staff Spotlight video about what this award means to them.
As I traveled between the buildings to help make the announcements on Monday, I thought about my interactions with Ray-Pec team members this year during classroom visits and the informal discussions I’ve had with many of our team members in hallways, worksites, and offices as I have tried to get to know the people in this district. Through those experiences, I can honestly say that Ray-Pec is an outstanding place for students because of what the Ray-Pec team does each and every day. This year has been trying for all of us. Through it, we've had to extend to ourselves and to each other an ample amount of patience and grace. But through it all, the Ray-Pec team keeps meeting the needs of our students in as many ways as possible.
I wrote to our team earlier this week that there is one realization that stands out to me about what I have seen this school year about Ray-Pec.
Everyone is an educator and has played a critical role in this year's success.
I believe that everyone is an educator because all of the Ray-Pec team either provides the in-person or VIPR education experience to our students or provides the critical and needed support that makes that experience possible! We are blessed to have so many outstanding people throughout this district.
So, as we near the end of the week of appreciation, I invite you to join me in thanking those who have been instrumental in your child’s education this year. As I wrote back in July, this year wasn’t always going to be pretty. However, because of the people in this district, we have persevered through even the toughest challenges.
Thank you for entrusting your children to the Ray-Pec School District.
