Canada Soccer announces Regina as host city for 2025 Futsal Canadian Championship! 

Canada Soccer has named Regina as host city and FC Regina the host club for Canada Soccer’s 2025 Futsal Canadian Championship featuring the top men’s and women’s amateur teams in pursuit of a national title. The annual competition will be hosted in the Saskatchewan capital for the first time with the championship matches scheduled for Sunday 13 April 2025. 

“Futsal will be key as we continue to grow and develop soccer across Canada, and we are thrilled to announce Regina as the host city for the 2025 Futsal Canadian Championship,” said Peter Augruso, President of Canada Soccer. “The province of Saskatchewan has a tremendous reputation and a passion for sport, and we are confident that soccer fans will support this championship in the world-class spirit Saskatchewan is known for and always delivers.”

Soccer Canada Men’s National Team Head Coach Jesse Marsch to host coaching workshops across Canada in early 2025 

Jesse Marsch will travel across the country hosting coaching workshops for provincial coaches in Canada. The goal of the events is to give local coaches opportunities to learn, share knowledge and network within the sport. Marsch will provide grassroots associations and their coaches with information on his game model with the Men’s National Team, his philosophies of football, and details on experiences from his career coaching at the top level of the sport in Europe and North America. 

“I am really excited to travel across Canada and meet influential coaches in these various communities. We are eager, as the leadership of Canada Soccer, to share our ideas and unite the coaches in this country. This will be a series of interactive video and coaching sessions, and we are hopeful to get big attendance and participation.” - Jesse Marsch 

Marsch will be meeting with SSA coaches in Saskatoon on January 26th. 

Powerchair Soccer: Empowering Athletes in Wheelchairs

SYSI launched its first All-Abilities soccer program. 

The All-Abilities program was designed to provide children and youth of all abilities – including those with physician and/or intellectual disabilities – a chance to play soccer. The leaders focused on creating a supportive space where everyone could participate and have fun. 

A big thank you to our incredible volunteers whose passion helped make the program a success. The volunteers helped to create a positive and welcoming experience for the participants.

Our Regina Adaptive Program recently welcomed 12 participants, and we're thrilled to announce that in the New Year, FC Regina will be launching a Super Kickers program!

Our in-person December Book Review session took place in Regina, while the November online session featured a fantastic discussion with Canada Games Head Coach Jennie Waldner.

Exciting Developments Ahead in 2025!

This year, we’ve explored some incredible new initiatives, including the Green Whistle Initiative, Walking Soccer, and Adaptive Sport Grants.

Stay tuned for the release of our 2025 schedule and registration details! The Green Whistle Initiative will officially kick off in Saskatoon in 2025 and Marvin Okello will be here on January 15th– we can’t wait to share more.

4 member Organizations were part of Canada Soccer’s “Free Kicks Grant program”. Aiming to reduce barriers for all new-to-Canada participants and promote inclusion in organized soccer through club-hosted Free Kicks – Try it Events.  

• Astra Sports Inc – “The partnership that we have with Open Door Society is really just a relationship going back the last 8 or so years where we run a camp during the summer months for kids who attend the Open Door Society programming during the summer. Our contact, Harjeet Kaur, helped connect us with Hennadii Mamedov, a newcomer to Canada from Ukraine who has connections to the Ukrainian community here in Saskatoon. Hennadii has a physical education background and also ran some soccer programming in Ukraine. He was able to get a few groups of Ukrainian newcomers to come out and try some sessions at the ASTRA facility.”   

• Aurora Soccer Club - in partnership with Canada Soccer, was proud to host our inaugural Free Kicks Try It Mini Camp. This initiative aimed to reduce barriers and promote inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) in youth soccer. 

Whether participants were new to Saskatoon, new to Canada, or new to soccer, we welcomed everyone for a FREE day of soccer fun! The mini-camp provided an opportunity for youth to connect with their community while experiencing soccer in Saskatoon.
