Ms. S is bedridden with health issues. She lives alone and her family is not involved with her care. A friend has visited daily for the past 10 years to check on her, cook for her, and feed her two cats. Noticing the gradual decline in Ms. S's home, this friend sought help from Adventist HealthCare, which referred her to Rebuilding Together Montgomery County.
Upon inspection, Rebuilding Together Montgomery County staff found multiple accessibility challenges and a basement that had flooded and never been cleaned properly - a major health concern. RTMC compiled a list of critical issues and assembled a team of [Re]Builders among our many generous partners.
Rebuilding Together Montgomery County matched Ms. S with a group of volunteers from Hunton Andrews Kurth law firm, JLL Construction, HITT Contracting, and Gensler, design and architects. These community heroes came together to paint, hang drywall, fix electrical problems, and adapt Ms. S's landscaping to provide safer access. Apartment Turnovers, another [Re]Building partner, completed the work, installing new appliances and repairing the kitchen sink. Now that the house is a healthy place for Ms. S to live, RTMC hopes to complete accessibility work to keep it a safe place to live.
Ms. S is grateful for the work that has been completed. And Rebuilding Together Montgomery County is thankful for the generous support of our partners and financial supporters. Without everyone's support of time, talent, or treasure, we could not provide this critical work to help our neighbors - and yours!
