Everything You Do Adds Up
Every sale of these little ornaments, with their exquisite detail and loads of love in each one, can make a difference. From Tara B: “They are beautiful. It made my heart feel so good to support Cancer Connection and check some gifts off of my holiday shopping list.” See below for more details about where to find them.
Cancer Connection Community Members,

Each of our community members' gifts and actions to support people with cancer are adding up to a big collective impact. We're 70% of the way toward the $250,000 needed to Secure Our Future. That is happening because so many of you have volunteered (making calls, crafting ornaments, and soon, stuffing letters). You have made financial contributions. You have donated to and shopped at our Thrift Shop. You've organized fundraisers. Thank you!

Let's keep going! You can vote for Cancer Connection (more on that below), buy an ornament, or hold your own Facebook fundraiser. One share of our enews, a Facebook post, or a testimonial about our services can go much further than you realize. All these actions add up to raise thousands of dollars and help many people find comfort and strength to deal with cancer.

And it's all the little things, a smile, a cup of tea, a hug, a listening ear, a kind word - that add up to LOVE - that can't be bought. Those are, sadly, hard to share in person right now. During this time when many of our community members will not be seeing family and friends for the holidays, the acts of giving and receiving even something as small as an ornament, lovingly made by our Volunteers, is a way to connect, like a soft little hug. And of course, our Befrienders are here by phone for those of you who are dealing with cancer and caregiving and need that listening ear at 413-586-1642.

Florence Bank customers have another way that may seem so small but can support our free services: they can vote in the Customer's Choice program. All your paper ballots and online clicks in 2019 added up to over $4700 for the two All Cancer Support Groups (Northampton and Amherst) and Caregivers and Families Support Group. (We were neck and neck with the animals--Dakin Humane Society received the top grant amount of $5,000). Votes are due by December 31st. See below for more information.

Yesterday, on Veteran's Day, I thought about how we are blessed that we have those who have given of themselves to serve in our military, changing their lives, residences, and their relationships to keep us and our country safe and secure. Please remember to thank them and consider writing them notes of thanks. Each act of kindness toward our Veterans adds up to the recognition of their service.

I've also been thinking about my fellow citizens and how they were determined to vote, have their votes counted, and have an impact on our future. It's so easy to think that our individual votes, our individual acts, are so small compared to those of the powerful. I feel so good about my vote this time. "There’s no such thing as a vote that doesn’t matter. It all matters." Barack Obama, 44th President of the United States.
Respectfully,

Beverly

P.S. Together we have raised $86,780 in donations, pledges, and grants and $89,131 in Thrift Shop sales since launch on August 5th, $175,911 toward the $250,000 needed. We have about $74,000 left to raise to Secure Our Future. Let's keep going! Have you made your special gift yet?

A hearty thanks to all the generous Cancer Connection Volunteers who made birds, trees, cupcakes, hearts, snowflakes and more. What a Labor of Love!

Volunteer Susan F. said, "We’ve been blessed and haven’t had to deal with cancer in our immediate family but I have many friends who have been treated at Cooley Dickinson and Baystate Franklin for cancer, so I am happy to support the work of Cancer Connection."

Cancer Connection extends our thanks to Cranston Christmas Tree Farm in Ashfield, especially Mary Ellen Cranston, for their years of loyal support and partnership during their Annual Ornament Sales for Cancer Connection.

Our Executive Director Beverly Herbert said, “Cancer Connection is blessed to have community-wide caring partners who help make our services free by their generous hearts."

Florence Bank's Customers Have a Choice
If you have an account at Florence Bank, please choose Cancer Connection in their Customers' Choice program.

Given how many of our community members chose Cancer Connection in past years, we know your ballots could add up to last year it resulted in more than $4700--underwrite caregiver's and family and 2 general support groups last year imagine what we could this year: enough for dozens of Befriending calls and Calming Strategies Telehealth sessions for people dealing with cancer.

Another Way to Provide Support:
Consider Being a Board Member

Cancer Connection is recruiting additional members for our Board of Directors.

Whether you are a community resident, business professional, parent, or retiree; a Cancer Connection participant, current Volunteer, integrative therapist; or a professional with experience and skill in one of these areas: finance, law, fundraising and development, communications/marketing, or health and human services, Cancer Connection needs you.

We invite you to apply. We're looking for individuals of all ages (18 and older). Cancer Connection is committed to diversity and inclusion on its Board and we welcome individuals of all backgrounds to apply.

The Board member application is available at cancer-connection.org. Please email Executive Director Beverly Herbert at [email protected] for more information and to send your application. We hope you will consider joining us.

If being a board member isn't right for you right now, please spread the word to those you know who would bring passion and commitment to CC's board. And consider joining a committee, working with staff and Board members on various projects.

If you are interested in volunteering, you can learn more on our website and email our Center at [email protected] for more information.

Warmly,

Lisa
