ELDERS CORNER

Your elders, along with the usual "elder duties," are currently exploring a process referred to as Natural Church Development (NCD). This process has been developed over time as the result of a focused investigation of thousands of churches around the globe.

Christian Schwarz and his colleagues have developed a set of tools to evaluate the current status of any particular church. After evaluating these tools and comparing the results to the health of those churches, steps have been developed to help guide any church interested in improving its health.

What is a "healthy church"? A church that embraces the truth of the Bible, supports its members and shares the gospel with as many people as possible.

To help in this process at FCCTD, Lynn Kent, who was introduced in a recent Elder's Corner newsletter and who recently spoke from the pulpit, has been brought on board. He is well versed in NCD and can't wait to help us take advantage of its potential.

He has already interviewed a number of church members but still has more to go. His intent is to interview a "representative sample," but if you have a burning desire to share your point of view, whether you are a member or not, contact one of the elders or Pastor Mike and let your interest be known.

WHAT WE BELIEVE...First Christian Church The Dalles is not affiliated with a denomination, instead choosing to be overseen by a team of elders. We consider the Bible to be the words of God, thus being incapable of error. As we seek a unified practice of our faith, we follow the teachings of the New Testament. We share communion each Sunday and follow the Biblical pattern for conversion. We support any who have accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord through belief, public confession of faith, baptism by immersion and continual obedience to Biblical standards of living. We hold firmly to essential doctrines but celebrate freedom in non-essentials as we seek to love God, love people, and make disciples who follow Jesus.
