Persecution...

In Acts 8:1-4 we read about the day when “…a great persecution began against the church in Jerusalem, and they were scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria." Usually, we think of persecution having no positive effects; no one seeks out or purposely entertains persecution on a regular basis. Persecution is generally always viewed as negative and no one I know enjoys it because it is unpleasant, demeaning, embarrassing, isolating, etc.

But can persecution have a positive effect? Acts 8:4 records, “Therefore, those who had been scattered went through places preaching the word.” Persecution scattered people over the known world, but it cannot take away the truth of who Jesus is and what He did in dying for our sins, being buried, and rising again. Consequently, Jesus’ commission to go into all the world used persecution to accomplish His purpose for His church which continues today.

Have you ever felt persecuted? If so, look for the way Jesus can use you in that situation to share the truth about who He is to those around you: His word never changes.

Shalom, Shalom,

Mike W.

Are you one of our awesome volunteers but perhaps forgot when you're scheduled to serve? Here is the July 2025 Volunteer Schedule

Hello , Church - - -

The Elders and Trustees wanted to follow up with all of you, regarding the note you received in the mail a few weeks ago about the Church finances.

Your response, over the past few weeks, to those concerns has had a noticeable impact on our budget challenges.

As the accounting for our second financial quarter draws near, the Trustees, especially, wanted to thank all of you for heeding the call to respond, As you all know, our budgeting process is totally faith-based and dependent upon God's people putting trust in His promises. Your leadership team sees that happening, too, and we praise Him as you all are stepping forward in this area.

It's our hope and prayer that we won't relax, but will continue to give generously, as we step into the future of new staffing and ministry needs, for God's work in The Dalles and through our Missions everywhere.

Thanks, All. Please, don't relax. We still have work to do, for His glory.

Jack Cherry -  Congregation Chairman

Ryan and Erin Long, missionaries in Scotland, will be holding two open houses on Thursday, June 26 and Monday, July 21 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Both open houses will be held at Lynn and Marlene Long’s house, 2401 Mount Hood Street, The Dalles. If possible, please RSVP to ryan.long@novo.org

We are still looking for a few volunteers for VBS. We need 1 or 2 people for the craft station (crafts are already prepared, just need someone to direct the kids on how to do the craft). We also need at least 3 people to help lead groups around to the different stations (you are not teaching, just helping the kids get to where they need to be).

There are still items needed for VBS and those items can be found on the bulletin board in the fireside room. Also if you have any western decorations that we can borrow that would be great too, just fill out the slip hanging on the bulletin board and attach it to the item you are letting us borrow.

Questions? Contact Tiffany Anderson 541-980-8789 or Tia Anderson 541-980-3918.

Registration link - click here.

Join us in the Fireside Room following Sunday morning service as we wish Lynn & Lois Kent a fond farewell.

Men’s Breakfast will be meeting on July 12th, which is the 2nd Saturday of July, to accommodate Andy Smith being in town as our speaker. Make a note and be there on the July 12th to share breakfast and a message with Andy.

WHAT WE BELIEVE...First Christian Church The Dalles is not affiliated with a denomination, instead choosing to be overseen by a team of elders. We consider the Bible to be the words of God, thus being incapable of error. As we seek a unified practice of our faith, we follow the teachings of the New Testament. We share communion each Sunday and follow the Biblical pattern for conversion. We support any who have accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord through belief, public confession of faith, baptism by immersion and continual obedience to Biblical standards of living. We hold firmly to essential doctrines but celebrate freedom in non-essentials as we seek to love God, love people, and make disciples who follow Jesus.
