We Have A New Pastor!
As chairman of the Pastoral search team, I have been amazed at how God has led us in the search for a new pastor. From the beginning we decided that we were not going to settle for the convenient choice but wait for God to reveal His man in His time. Early in the process there were times when the job seemed overwhelming, and sometimes futile. I spoke to every potential candidate, but none of them seemed right for FCC.
Then we were told of a highly sought after candidate formerly with New Beginnings Christian Church and Eagle Christian Church in Boise, by the name of Justin Sturgeon. Even then, acquiring him as our new lead pastor seemed a long shot. He had family in the Boise area, and he was looking for a larger church with a better demographic balance. But Justin also assured me that first and foremost, he wanted to serve where God wanted him. That’s when God stepped in and showed both Justin and us that FCC was where He wanted Justin to serve.
On June 1, Justin presented himself to our congregation as a candidate for lead pastor, by preaching a sermon and sharing himself with church members during a question-and-answer session at our church luncheon, following the service. Last Sunday at a special congregational meeting we voted overwhelmingly to invite Justin to be our new lead pastor. As of Wednesday, Justin has verbally agreed to accept the position. We hope to have a signed contract soon with the projected starting date of August 1. At that time Mike Wilson will be moving to a half-time position in support of Justin’s new ministry, and to help with the transition. We are looking forward to this new phase in the life of FCCTD.
I also want to take this opportunity to thank the members of the pastoral search team. I could not have asked for a better group of Godly men and women to serve with. They worked and prayed over many weeks and months to bring us to this point. Please be sure to thank Mike Smith, Gladys Caddy, Marilyn Nielsen, Deb Eddy, Will Tanner, Mike Lorang, Lynn Kent and Mike Wilson for all their hard work.
