Weekly Update
June 17th, 2022

Do you ever wonder about addresses? I am thinking of ours today as I determine what to write here that will inspire each of you. We have a home address, a P.O. Box address, an e-mail address, and other social media addresses. They are each important to us as we receive mail and packages. They also identify how you can contact us by whatever means necessary. All this is to introduce you to my thoughts for this missive.

We do not pay much attention to 2 times that are very important events that happened during the beginning days of the church. The first is the time of Jesus ascension into heaven. This event took place 40 days after the Resurrection. The happenings just before this are interesting. We first see the disciples near the shore of the Sea of Galilee. Jesus met them there and, according to the gospel of John, that is where he asked John,” Do you Love Me” 3 times, with the admonition to feed His sheep. According to Luke, it was there that Jesus gave the great commission.

Then, after returning back to Jerusalem, Jesus met with the disciple on the Mount of Olives where He was taken up into heaven. Ray Vanderlan referred to this as “Jesus moving to a new address”. Jesus took His place at the right hand of God. And He is still there interceding for us every moment of every day.

Ten days later, the Day of Pentecost occurred. The 120 were gathered together in one place and the Holy Spirit was given to them and to all of us. You recall Jesus words that He must go, but He would send us the Holy Spirit to dwell in us who are believers and followers of God through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. This is a new address for the Holy Spirit
All this to say, Thank you Lord, for moving Jesus to your right hand and for sending your Holy Spirit to dwell in each of us. We each need to realize and accept what God has done for us. Then to live our lives in THE POWER OF HIS LOVE.

WHAT WE BELIEVE...First Christian Church The Dalles is not affiliated with a denomination, instead choosing to be overseen by a team of elders. We consider the Bible to be the words of God, thus being incapable of error. As we seek a unified practice of our faith, we follow the teachings of the New Testament. We share communion each Sunday and follow the Biblical pattern for conversion. We support any who have accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord through belief, public confession of faith, baptism by immersion and continual obedience to Biblical standards of living. We hold firmly to essential doctrines but celebrate freedom in non-essentials as we seek to love God, love people, and make disciples who follow Jesus.
