To help diminish the cycle of Zika transmission and reduce the number of mosquitoes, the Miami-Dade County Mosquito Control team will conduct mosquito-control aerial spraying in the 1.5 square mile area of Miami Beach where mosquitoes have tested positive for Zika. If weather conditions are suitable, the aerial spraying will occur tomorrow, Friday, September 9, from 5 to 5:30 am. You may prefer to keep your child indoors until 6:30 am following the spraying.

Dual Enrollment: College Classes while in High School
Dual enrollment classes offered at Miami Beach Senior High allow students to earn college credit while still in high school. Funded by the City of Miami Beach, these college classes allow students to gain exposure to a college course in the convenience of their high school campus.
Each year the number of classes available has grown, ranging from Introduction to Sociology to Calculus. If your child is ready to enroll in a college course, contact the school counselor in advance of the next semester or school year.
Currently, over 130 Beach High students are enrolled in this semester Dual Enrollment classes: Introduction to Sociology, Survey of British Literature, College Algebra, and Introduction to Education. More courses will be offered for next semester.
Read more:
(from "Dual Options: Earn both high school and college credit", by Dr. Leslie Rosenfeld, Next Generation).
"Dual-enrollment class options are now available on campus as part of the city's Education Compact with Miami-Dade County Public Schools and Florida International University (FIU). Dual-enrollment classes at MBSH provide interested and eligible students with more rigorous classes,
while earning both high school and college credit at no cost.
Dual-enrollment courses are real college courses for real college credit. The grades will go on your child's permanent record. Before enrolling, make sure your child is ready for the demanding work a college class will require, as this grade will be put on their permanent college transcript.
In order to qualify for dual-enrollment courses, students must be entering or be in grades 10, 11, or 12, must have a 3.0 unweighted grade point average (GPA), and meet all the college/university criteria for admission. Your child will also need permission from parents/guardians and a guidance counselor or principal.
There is no cost for your child to participate, as the City of Miami Beach and M-DCPS pay for the professor and required materials".

A Debate Showcase
Mr. Rywell and the Speech and Debate students hosted a workshop on August 27 to welcome new students and parents. Varsity students demonstrated all the different events. Ben Burstein delivered a Congressional Debate Speech to the audience. Cameron Gittler demonstrated Extemporaneous Speaking. Darlene Adirika presented an Original Interpretation. Abby Gualda and Anna Nueryason performed a Duo Interpretation. Alex Radick and Guido Dominguez argued for the affirmation, while Tali Peretz and Alex Sherer defended the negation in a shortened Public Forum round.
The team was excited to see such a large turnout and is looking forward to having a great season. As part of their initiative to get more novices involved, there will be a Half Day Congressional Debate Workshop on September 17.
The Debate Program coached by Mr. Rywell has gotten better with each passing year. Miami Beach Senior High has a great tradition of championship for Speech and Debate teams, and this year's team is committed to continue the tradition of excellence, and to introduce Debate to a wider range of students. Speech and Debate gives students valuable skills that they will use for the rest of their lives.
