Greetings!

With continued headlines, actions, and rhetoric degrading voter trust in our upcoming elections, it is especially important to stay grounded in our current voting landscape in Massachusetts. We are proud to provide the following information to ensure that you can not only trust your own voting journey, but also ensure this trusted information reaches your community.

1. Your Mail-In Ballot is Safe and Secure for the September 1 Primary. Vote by mail applications are being received now, and the following deadlines still apply:

  • Important deadlines:
  • August 22 - Deadline for registering to vote.
  • Check your voter registration status HERE.
  • August 25 - Your mail-in ballot application must reach your local election officials by 5 PM.
  • Apply as soon as possible!

  • A note on mail-in voting for the general election: The LWVMA v. Trump lawsuit continues, and we will update you on any news related to its outcome.

2. VOTE411 is still your one-stop shop for all election information. Visit VOTE411.org to:

  • Find your districts & learn more about what’s on your ballot, personalized to your address, HERE.

  • Invite three friends to make a plan to vote HERE.

3. Election Protection: The US Department of Justice (DOJ) is sending election monitors to Boston and New Bedford for the September 1 primary. Election monitors are frequently sent to Massachusetts–eight cities were monitored in 2024.

  • How can you help? Volunteer with Election Protection HERE.
  • Please note that Election Protection Poll Observation is the only way to appropriately address potential threats at polling locations.

4. Looking Ahead to November: Ballot Question Numbers Are Live – LWVMA guidance coming soon!

  • Ballot question numbers are now live on the Secretary of the Commonwealth's website HERE.
  • Guidance for local Leagues will be issued by the end of this week.
  • Following the release of Ballot Question guidance, the state League will host a town hall to answer your questions.

As primary and general election season approaches, it is important to remember the League of Women Voters has spent the last 106 years as the ultimate election experts in 155 communities across the Commonwealth. With 2.6 million voters served by a local League in 2025, our commitment to displaying courage, trust in our elections, and a commitment to energizing all Bay Staters to get out and vote is pivotal. We must stand tall and remember our binding mission: to empower voters and defend democracy.
