First Day Excitement

Springfield Public Schools K-12 students will begin the 2023-2024 school year Tuesday, Aug. 22. View all the back to school information including news about immunizations, student insurance, and school meals here.


Note:

  • First day for early childhood special education students and Wonder Years students will be Thursday, Aug. 24.

Start and Dismissal Times

School start and end times will remain the same with the exception of AgAcademy and WOLF, which will move to Tier 2.


Determine which tier your child's school is on here then find the appropriate times below:

  • Tier 1 schools will begin at 7:20 a.m. and end at 2:20 p.m.
  • Tier 2 schools will begin at 8:10 a.m. and end at 3:10 p.m.
  • Tier 3 schools will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m.

Before- and After-School Care

SHINE, our before- and after-school program, will provide academic support for students and offer families a safe place for their children to participate in supervised activities. SPS partners with several community organizations to provide this service.



Any SPS student is eligible to attend SHINE and those who qualify for free or reduced price meals are eligible for scholarships.

Enrolling Is Simple

Students new to SPS may start the enrollment process online. After that is done, you will need to visit your child's school in person and provide some required documentation. Elementary school offices will open in August and middle and high school offices are open now. Call the school to confirm office hours before visiting.

Free/reduced Meal Application

Springfield Public Schools provides free/reduced price meals for eligible students who are unable to pay the full price of meals under the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast program. Families should complete the application each year to determine eligibility.

Media Blocks

If you DO NOT want your child to be interviewed or photographed by news media during the school year, please complete the Student Media Exclusion Form and return it to your child's school.

Important Messages are as Close as Your Phone

SPS uses Blackboard Connect Notification System to keep parents and staff informed of important announcements, school closings and emergency situations through automated telephone messages, text, and push notifications with the MySPS app.

Track Bus Delays

Visit www.sps.org/busdelays to track any delays with student pick-up or drop-off. Be prepared for delays the first three days of school as bus drivers conduct a complete roster check to ensure every student is on the correct bus prior to leaving the school.

Class of 2024

Mark your calendar for the 2024 graduation ceremonies. Each of the five SPS high schools will conduct their graduations on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Great Southern Bank Arena on the MSU campus.


Central - 9 a.m.

Glendale - 11:30 a.m.

Hillcrest - 2 p.m.

Parkview - 4:30 p.m.

Kickapoo - 7 p.m.

Pay Fees Online

MySchoolBucks is an option for SPS parents to pay fees online using a debit/credit card for yearbooks, device repairs, school store items and much more.

District Device Repair

Make sure your district-provided device is in good working order for the new school year. If your device needs repaired, bring it to the General Services Center, located at 1458 E. Chestnut Expressway. Bring it inside to the IT department during regular business hours or use the secure dropbox outside the main entrance 24 hours a day. Please include the student ID number, phone number and a description of the problem with the device. Staff will contact you when your device is ready to be picked up.
