A Message from the Mayor

Cumberland City Council to form new group to represent residents

Cumberland City Council is looking to form a new advocacy body to represent the interests of our residents. The decision comes after we moved to withdraw from the Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (WSROC).

Establishing a new advocacy group is a prime opportunity to amplify our communities’ voices on bigger issues and to create effective change for our 245,000 residents. I look forward to seeing what’s possible in developing a new advocacy group that truly represents our community.

Celebrating our rising star in Cumberland City

It was all chains and tiaras at Council Chambers when I met Regents Park local and Junior Miss Australia, 9-year-old Ava Da Silva recently.

Ava talked to us about her passion for community work and provided me with a copy of her favourite book, ‘I’m Australian too.’

Ava has raised thousands of dollars for charity groups and has donated over 500 books to the ‘Give a Book, Take a Book’ program.

I’m so proud of the work Ava does and can’t wait to see her achieve great things. She’s a role model for youth in Cumberland City and beyond.

Have your say on the future of Granville

Cumberland City Council wants to hear from residents about how they want Granville Town Centre and surrounds to look and feel in the coming years.

We are placing a huge emphasis on planning for the future, making the area an economic hub with a mix of commercial, retail and residential spaces supported by better public transport. We also think it's essential that we achieve all of this while preserving local heritage.

Free English classes for local residents

Cumberland City Council has partnered with the Career Pathways and Employability Skills Section TAFE NSW Liverpool, to run free English classes for local residents and newly arrived migrants.

Cumberland City is one of the most diverse local government areas in NSW, with many of our residents migrating here from overseas.

The classes are designed to help people improve their English language skills and to help them settle into our community.

Students have a great opportunity to build their skills in speaking, writing, reading and listening and the course also provides a pathway to future training and employment opportunities in TAFE NSW .

Classes are being offered at the Auburn Centre for Community and have been set up in accordance with COVID-19 safe protocols.

Win up to hundreds in book vouchers

Do you own a heritage home or have a passion for historic sites throughout Cumberland City? Applications are now open to heritage enthusiasts and heritage homeowners for our 2021 Heritage Awards.

Cumberland City’s heritage includes beautiful streetscapes, gardens, parks, farm buildings, homes, cemeteries, community buildings, and infrastructure. All these assets contribute to the character and charm that is sought and valued by residents and visitors alike.

There are four award categories, including a colouring competition for local youth. The Cumberland Local Heritage Awards aim to show Council’s appreciation to those who have an active role in preserving and maintaining Cumberland’s heritage, and to those who demonstrate an interest in

learning about local history.

Council is also running a Local Heritage Rebate Program, which provides owners of heritage homes an opportunity to apply for funding that will help maintain and improve the quality of their properties. For more information visit the Council website

Cumberland City Council has recently launched a new way to make bookings for community centres, facilities, gardens, sportsgrounds and other Council spaces.

It's quick and easy and all in one place with Bookable. Discover and search for Council spaces in just a few clicks.

You can make reservations, receive quotes for the facility of your choice and browse through a range of top facilities available to residents, sporting groups, recreational groups, businesses, community groups and more.

Book a clean-up the right way

Did you know Cumberland City residents can get rid of unwanted household items up to four times a year? Council is dedicated to a clean and green city, and we need your help.

Do your part by putting out your items after your clean-up services are booked to help keep our streets tidy. Due to the unprecedented level of booking wait times might apply. Bookings for your clean-up are essential.

Rubbish left on the kerbside without a booking will be treated as illegal dumping and fines of up to $8000 apply.

What can you do?

Check the booking schedule in advance to make sure the date you want is available
Once your booking is made, stack your pile in a less than 2 cubic metre square the night before the collection date
Celebrate all your free storage space
