The Society of Systematic Biologists (SSB) is pleased to join the Society for the Study of Evolution and the American Society of Naturalists in hosting the Evolution Meetings in Athens, GA this summer. The virtual meeting takes place May 29-30, with the in-person taking place June 20-24.

SSB has a number of special events including:

• The Presidential Address, delivered by society president Dr. Jessica Ware.
• The Inclusiveness, Diversity, Equity, & Access (IDEA) Award talk, delivered by awardee Dr. Jeremy Yoder.
• A special symposium: Machine learning and new inference algorithms: expanding what is possible in evolutionary biology and phylogenetic analysis
• And more to come, including mixers and other events

EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION DEADLINE APRIL 4

Early bird registration ends April 4, 2025. Talks registered before this date are guaranteed to be given a slot. Many attendance scholarships have deadlines soon, so make sure to check out the participant support page!

THE ERNST MAYR AWARD

In 2025, the Ernst Mayr Award Competition will be conducted online, May 29-30. To submit your abstract for consideration, you must:

• be a current member of SSB
• submit your abstract via the conference talk submission page
• submit by April 15, 2025
• Complete instructions for award talk submissions can be found on the Evolution Meetings website.

Volunteer as a Reviewer for the Mayr Award

Members of SSB are encouraged to apply to review for the Mayr Award. Guidelines can be found on our website. This is a great way to encourage our young members, and get to see some fantastic talks, too!

EARLY CAREER TRAVEL ASSISTANCE FOR EVOLUTION 2025

Traveling to conferences and meetings can be financially challenging for early-career members, particularly those at transitional career stages (e.g., students and postdocs) or based in institutions or countries with limited financial support. To address this need, the SSB DEIC has established the Travel Funds for Early Career Systematists. The goal of these funds is to fully support the participation of early career SSB members at regional, national, and international SSB conferences (Evolution, standalone meetings, and joint meetings with ESEB). This includes registration, lodging, travel, and visa acquisition (if applicable).
