North Idaho Secession

In 1983, city councils in Sandpoint, Coeur d'Alene and Lewiston and the commissioners of Nez Perce County approved resolutions advocating for the secession of eastern Washington and northern Idaho to form a new state. The primary complaint was the widespread belief that the panhandle consistently received a raw deal at the hands of the state legislature located in Boise.

IDHW asks Labrador’s office to pay $119,000 legal fees

The Attorney General and his deputies are required by Idaho law to defend the state and its agencies in court. IDHW hired outside counsel for this case over the Community Partner Grants Program, and asks that the AG's Office pay for its legal expenses.


“There is no question that (IDHW’s) counsel was employed because of a conflict in representation by Attorney General Labrador,” the request states.

Legal case over IDHW community grants dismissed, but AG investigation continues

The Attorney General’s Office filed a petition against the Department of Health and Welfare in March regarding the Community Partner Grants Program, to which IDHW responded by filing a lawsuit. Now, both legal actions have been dismissed after the special prosecutor on the case withdrew requests for civil investigative demands.
