MESSAGE FROM THE PROVOST

As we close another academic year, I have been reflecting with deep gratitude on my first year at Georgia Southern University.

This year has been one of learning and listening. I have had the privilege of spending time with faculty, staff, alumni, students, deans, department chairs and campus leaders across our university. In those conversations, I have seen the depth of talent, care and commitment that defines Georgia Southern. I have heard about the work happening in classrooms, laboratories, clinical spaces, studios, communities and offices across our campuses. I have also heard about the challenges, opportunities and aspirations that will shape where we go next.

What has stood out most to me is the shared commitment to student success and academic excellence. Whether through teaching, research, mentorship, service or the daily work of supporting our academic mission, our faculty and staff continue to demonstrate what Excellence in Action truly means.

As we move into the summer months, I hope this season offers each of you time to focus on the work that sustains and inspires you. For many faculty, summer provides space to advance scholarship, pursue research, write, prepare for the year ahead and reconnect with the ideas that first drew you to your fields. For staff, it is often a time to regroup, plan and continue the essential work that keeps our academic enterprise moving forward. And for all of us, I hope it also brings opportunities to recharge and reflect.

Reflection is not separate from excellence. It is part of what makes excellence possible.

I am grateful for the welcome I have received during my first year at Georgia Southern, and I am even more grateful for the people who make this university what it is. I look forward to continuing to learn from you, work alongside you and build on the momentum we have created together.
