A Message from the Provost

What a great month to be at Georgia Southern University! We saw our faculty leaders like Department of Chemistry’s Dr. Beulah Narendrapurapu receiving recognition for not only hard work but academic excellence, and I’ve never been prouder of our university.

Executive Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer of the University System of Georgia, Dr. Ashwani Monga, was also on our campus this month. He was incredibly impressed with our facilities, and I was excited to introduce him to our campus.

We have rescheduled the last Conversations with the Provost for April, and I hope to continue our discussions from those meetings and carry them to leadership. I also hope everyone will stop by the GS4 Student Scholarship Symposium at Armstrong and Statesboro campuses. Featuring research from our student body, events like these are what institutions of higher education are all about. Our momentum is continuing, and we are all gearing towards the end of finals. I know I am looking forward to celebrating another commencement, and we have so much to be proud of.

Georgia Southern University hosts Capstone Momentum Summit

The Complete College Georgia Momentum Summit Capstone event was held at Georgia Southern University on March 10, including a first-time campus visit from Executive Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer of the University System of Georgia, Ashwani Monga, Ph.D.

The Capstone event is structured to give institutions the opportunity to report out on the plans the universities developed and provide a workshop space to gather feedback and input on their work.

Georgia Southern chemistry professor earns USG Hall of Fame Faculty Award

Georgia Southern University’s Beulah Narendrapurapu, Ph.D., won a 2023 Felton Jenkins, Jr. Hall of Fame Faculty Award presented by the University System of Georgia (USG). This system-wide award recognizes faculty and staff for their commitment to teaching and student success.

“These awards embody USG’s dedication

to academic excellence and our gratitude for these outstanding faculty and programs,” said USG Director of Teaching and Learning Excellence Denise Domizi, Ph.D., in the announcement.

Faculty Center Debuts New Writing Space

In April, the Faculty Center is debuting two new spaces dedicated to faculty members who want to work on projects away from their offices or busy hallways. The Faculty Center Writing Space is made up of two classrooms (one on Statesboro Campus at Cone Hall and one on Armstrong Campus at Faculty Center's Multi-Purpose Space in Solms 207) and will be available during normal business hours. Writing boot camps will also take place in the spaces, but they are otherwise walk-in friendly and can also be reserved. Whether faculty members are looking to meet about group projects, write or have a place away from interruptions, the Faculty Center Writing Space is available.
