Dear Reader,

Over the years we’ve discovered some interesting things about people and their capability

We’ve been fortunate in that we’ve had opportunity to work with exceptional people.

Exceptional people produce exceptional results, consistently.

Exceptional results like companies which consistently grow and prosper.

Exceptional results like having a business that they love and their passion demonstrated in the quality of their output.

Exceptional people continually overcome roadblocks, stops, obstacles, difficulties negative situations and produce a huge amount of positive energy.

I know you remember that positive energy expands, while negative energy contracts.

Exceptional people consistently do what they say they will do and by when they say it will be done.

Exceptional people are effective in their use of their time to accomplish their objectives.

Exceptional people utilize mentors.

COME share the holiday season with us at the Business Building Breakfast Wednesday, either in person or remotely via Skype at "Houston Crossroads"

Successful regard$,

COMMUNITY ACTIVITY

We were saddened to learn of the death of long-time PTSD Foundation of America Board Member, Jon Eliot King. We are grateful for the many years of his determined service with an unwavering passion to effectively reduce the Veteran suicide rate in this nation. Jon never faltered in his love and support of our organization’s mission.
Doug Brown, Board Chairman, adds: “Jon King was one of the original PTSD Foundation of America Board Members and a current Board Member. Mr. King was a Vietnam Nam veteran, a West Point graduate, and an attorney who had faced a number of trials throughout his life including a war, a heart transplant, and cancer but never gave up! May he Rest In Peace and may we all learn something from his spirit! He will he missed by his friends and fellow Board members.”
Jon will be remembered for his willingness to share his knowledge and experience in impacting the Veteran community.
Well done, thou good and faithful servant.

ANNOUNCEMENTS/NOTICES
A local business woman is seeking to acquire a healthy business in the Houston/Galveston metro area, as soon as possible. The criteria are: between $1 and $5 million in annual revenue; at least 5 employees; been in business over 5 years; in an industry with fairly inelastic demand – selling an essential product or service that people need on a regular basis. I seek the unsexy industries and am looking for donkeys more than unicorns. Is there a business owner who is ready to retire or start a new venture? I do not plan to change the name or let go of any employee who is doing a good job. The M.O. is to change as little as possible and let the business continue as it was. While in other projects I also work to turn around distressed businesses while the original owner retains equity, in this instance I am seeking to take complete control over a fairly healthy business that is capable of generating cash flow either immediately or within 6 months.
No brokers please.

ON THIS DAY DECEMBER 23RD
1823
A newspaper in Troy, New York, publishes an anonymous poem with the memorable opening line, "Twas the night before Christmas, when all thro' the house…" Literature professor Clement Clarke Moore will later be identified as the author of the poem that will help define the modern Santa Claus.
1888
A depressed Van Gogh cuts off his ear, reportedly after his friend, artist Paul Gauguin, says he's leaving the "yellow house" in Arles, France, where Van Gogh is renting rooms. This dashes Van Gogh's hopes of creating an artist colony there. Some historians will doubt Van Gogh cut his own ear and will blame Gauguin for the injury.

1954
A medical team described by one doctor as a "bunch of fools," performs the procedure on 23-year-old identical twins, Richard and Ronald Herrick. The recipient will live for eight years; his donor brother will live until age 79. One of the doctors, Joseph Murray, will go on to win a Nobel Prize for his work in organ transplants.
1986
Pilots Dick Rutan and Jeana Yeager land the odd-looking experimental plane at Edwards Air Force Base in California, completing the first flight around the world without refueling. The trip took nine days and three minutes and covered 25,000 miles

TIPS OF THE DAY

“Your perceptions determine your realities.”

“When you think you can, you can. When you think you can’t, that’s right, too.”

“Life is about choices and sometimes there are no easy ones.”

“Success is having fun, making money and doing good.”
A not-for-profit cooperative association of independent service business owners, founded from an economic development research project on the importance of startup business development
conducted by the  Houston Chamber of Commerce in the late 1970's.

We operate entirely without grants, gifts, donations, contributions or public funding.
We don't have our hand out and we are NOT your tax dollars at work!
We're independent business owners, entirely self-funded and very proud of it.

Co-Op startup companies have won virtually every award for business growth in Houston, some nationally and some even internationally.

Some of the companies we've worked with are "brand names" in Houston!

When you want assistance with your business, seek only those who have actual hands-on business ownership experience. You'll be glad you did! It makes for a world of difference!

Since our first Co-Op meeting held March 14, 1983, we've worked with 100,000+ people, generating 75,217 tips, leads, referrals and items of new business, generating revenues exceeding one billion dollars, founded the Entrepreneurial Development Center - Houston's first and Texas' oldest small business incubator and co-working space, First Houston Small Business Seed Capital Fund - literally the first small business seed capital fund in Houston, the Womens Business Center - first business incubator for women business owners in the United States with residency space and the Virtual Business Center - the first remote business incubator in the world - all totally without public funding, grants, gifts, donations or contributions.

Our Entrepreneurial Research conclusively demonstrated A) "entrepreneurship" could be taught in a classroom environment, resulting in colleges and universities, globally, commencing entrepreneurial courses and B) that women starting businesses were seeking a hand-up and a level playing field rather than a hand-out or charity and C) that business incubators actually accelerated business growth resulting in the next generation being named accelerators and D) incubators/accelerators could be entirely self-sufficient by charging a modest royalty interest in client companies and E) that entrepreneurship was color blind and gender neutral.

Here are but a few of the many endorsements given us.

Here are some of the organizations we've worked with.

We grow companies, build careers and advance ideas.
May we assist with yours?
