Spreading Our Warmth Campaign Results
There is so much excitement in the air at Haven of Hope! We finally crossed over into a new year and there is hope on the horizon. Our “Spread the Warmth Campaign” in December exceeded our goal of $200,000.00 as we raised $259,690.54 so far! We are so blessed by your generosity! We closed on our new building and will begin serving additional guests there on January 8, 2021. Until the safety distancing protocols of COVID are rescinded we will be able to bring an additional 50 people in out of the cold to rest, eat a hot meal, visit with friends and be encouraged by the love of God! With your generosity, we have also been able to expand from serving 5 days a week to 7 days a week! The team at Haven of Hope that is passionate about serving the needs of those less fortunate, you are part of that team and we appreciate you!

We are taking some big steps this year with an additional building, expanding our staff, serving 7 days a week, and growing our programs. Our hearts are full of faith that we are doing that which pleases our Lord Jesus. Luke 1:37 says “For nothing will be impossible with God.” And Proverbs 3:5-6 encourages us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.” We celebrate the provision you have provided to keep this work going!

7 Days a Week!
Saturday, January 2nd, 2021, marked the beginning of serving our guests 7 days a week! This is something the board has dreamed about for years. Thursday, January 7th we closed on our additional building at 700 Mariposa St. This building is situated right on the other side of the ally from us. Our new tables arrived the same day and we set up and entertained guests the following day! We are now able to seat, serve and provide warmth for 42 additional guests, 7 days a week!

In addition to a good meal, warmth and relaxation, Derrick is conducting a bible study on Sundays at 8:00 am. The first week the numbers were low but this last Sunday, January 10th, we had a full house for the bible study! God is doing marvelous things at Haven of Hope!
New Guest Service -
Outreach Court Alternative Case Resolution!
January 13th will be the first scheduled docket for Outreach Court Alternative Case Resolution Options, at Haven of Hope. The city and county of Denver approached us to consider hosting an alternative method for clearing out the backlog of outstanding warrants in the homeless community. Many but not all of these are bench warrants issued when a person fails to appear for a scheduled court appearance. This is very common amongst our guests due to transportation challenges, lack of a phone, and fear of incarceration.

Outreach Court is designed to alleviate the barriers to resolving court issues as well as fear. Present at HOH for Outreach Court will be a Public Defender, a representative of DHS (Denver Human Services) and a representative of MHCD, (Mental Health Center of Denver), and Derrick Vaughns, our Program Manager. We are an approved site for community service, so if a guest is given community service, Derrick will be present to set it up.

MHCD will be available to participate as a Co-Responder for any guests with a mental health issue. It will also allow them to get the guest reconnected with MHCD treatment and team.

DHS will be present to assist the guest with any of the following:
• Directions and Descriptions of Employment Agencies and their Fields of Expertise
• Applications for Housing
• Directions for how to get connected to Medical and Mental Health Services
• Connection for Mail/Phone
• Connections to Financial Help, Child Support, Social Security Attorneys
• Acquiring Vital Docs
• Benefit Acquisition

We hope that by providing this level of support, taking care of business will become a positive experience and encourage our guests onto a more positive path.
