Dear Earth Friends and Earth Heroes,

It has been a while since we last dropped a message in your inbox. A lot is happening on all fronts. How are you? We hope you and your family are well and healthy in this challenging time!

We invite you to do something positive to help our planet, our families, and our own mental health. Please gather your household and join our latest program: Street to Beach Cleanups . While we are all waiting for our monthly beach cleanups to resume, we encourage you to go out in your neighborhood, favorite park, around your block or to your favorite beach to pick up litter.

Keeping our streets clean, keeping trash from the storm drains, cleaning our beaches is something each of us can do. Clean Waterways = Clean Ocean

Please Join our Street to Beach Cleanup movement. It is easy :
  1. Sign the waiver
  2. Grab your supplies: bucket, gloves, pick up sticks, phone
  3. Go cleanup & record your trash on the Clean Swell App
Read on for all the details or go on our website: www.pacificbeachcoalition.org

We hope you will join our movement!
Stay near your home, stay safe, stay healthy.
Join the Street to Beach Cleanups
Our goal is to get as many Earth Heroes as possible to cleanup a location of their liking and inspiring others, while staying safe and respecting County and State orders.
1. Sign the waiver
To make sure that everyone is covered, please sign the online waiver for each person in your family or household - just like you do during our monthly cleanups. It only takes a few seconds!
2. Grab your supplies
Bucket or bag
If you don't have buckets or bags at home, you can get 2, 3 or 5 gallons buckets at your local hardware store for $4 or $5 each.
Gloves
We like reusable gloves because they are more sustainable. You can also find these at your hardware store for less than $5 .
Pick up sticks
Pick up sticks are the perfect tool to keep the litter at a reasonable distance from your face. These are also available at your hardware store. We recommend spending a little bit extra to get a solid and reliable grabber.
Phone
Use your phone to track the trash that you collect and take pictures. You can share them with us @pacificbeachcoalition ( Facebook & Instagram ). More details below!
3. Go cleanup & record your trash
We can’t stress this enough: you don’t need to go far to have a successful and ultra rewarding cleanup!

If your county is still adopting SIP, just go around your block . Look for tiny bits of litter such as food wrappers, cigarette butts, bottle caps etc…

If your county is now adopting more relaxed rules, you can go to your favorite beach, park, neighborhood, trails and pick up litter there .

Going to the same place regularly is actually a great way to see how much of a difference you make. Hopefully, you will find less and less litter and you will very likely inspire others to do the same!
4. Record the trash you found
While picking up or after you finish, record it!

Download the Clean Swell App  and log in your trash . It will automatically tally your items, weight and distance making it easy for you. Please remember to  list Pacific Beach Coalition as your group  so we can see your results too. F ind all the instruction s on our website .

If you can’t to use the Clean Swell App, please record your results on the  PBC Blue Bucket.  Give us a weight estimate, number of volunteers, and number of cigarette butts.

Bonus points if you collect your Cigarette butts for us. We'll send them to be recycled! Drop off station: Seaweed Holistics. Pet food bags, yogurt containers contain the odor best.
Friendly But Important Reminders
  • Cleanup streets safely and only if you are comfortable with it
  • Do not drive to do a cleanup, instead cleanup a street or block near you
  • Use gloves or a bag as a glove if needed
  • Use a pick up stick if you have one
  • Do it alone or with your immediate household only
  • Respect "spacious solidarity" of 6 feet when someone is passing by
  • Respect all the good practices such as washing your hands for 20+ seconds

Find a Spot with Trash
If you don't know where to go to pick up trash, we put together a map of Hot Spots where trash has been seen. If you know a spots that is very often trashy, send us an email so that we can add it to our list.
If You Need Supplies
Do you have a bucket? Gloves? Pick-up stick? You are all set. If not, you can find all of these things at your local hardware store or while supplies last we might be able to help you. Fill out the form and we will contact you as soon as we can.
