Exciting Additions to Gateway Center

Starting this summer, you will notice the implementation of exciting new additions to Gateway Center.

Gateway is the hub of our Syracuse campus, serving as a place for students to gather and socialize and the College to host events and special guests; it is where you can find Trailhead Café, the College Bookstore, and the Roosevelt Wildlife Collections.

Gateway is also home to the ESF Undergraduate Admissions team, and where our prospective and accepted students start their on-campus experience at ESF through an Open House, college tour, meeting with an Admissions counselor, or Accepted Student Reception. In many ways, it is the front door to our College — our “gateway.”

As a high-visibility building that accommodates a number of people every day, we are working to make Gateway even more welcoming, inviting, and representative of our campus community. Two of our projects include:

  • International Flag Display: Working in partnership with the Office of International Education, the Mighty Oak Student Assembly (MOSA), and MOSA representative Yelena Bolante ’23, ESF will unveil a new international flag display that represents the backgrounds of our student body, celebrates our diverse community, and encourages us to embrace each other’s differences. It is our rich diversity that helps advance our efforts to Improve Our World. The flags will be displayed on the walls of the first-floor concourse near the Forestry Drive entrance.

  • Welcome Center: A new Welcome Center will serve as the first point of entry for prospective students and families; alumni; and school and community partners. Our guests will be welcomed with new bright and inviting signage that complements the international flag display. A new desk will hold information about the College for our guests to take. The Welcome Center will be in the corner of the first-floor concourse at the Forestry Drive entrance of Gateway.

Much of the existing signage in the Gateway concourse is due for an update, and we hope that you enjoy the refreshed and welcoming new look and feel. We will work with academic departments, Undergraduate Admissions, Student Affairs, the Graduate School, and others to find exciting new ways to showcase our programs, research, athletics, and other key areas of the ESF experience across campus with even more updated displays. Lastly, we will continue to introduce updated exterior signage for gardens and buildings.

We’re very excited about these additions and encourage you to stop by Gateway this fall to see them for yourself.
