Wassail & Community Dance - THIS SATURDAY!

An Apple Tree Wassail is a traditional type of wassailing from the Cider orchards of Southern England, and dates back to at least the 1500s. This is a tradition full of song, ritual and dance, to see the dark winter away and to bring about a good crop of apples for the new year! We performed a Wassail on stage in our 2022 Midwinter Revels production, so it will be really exciting to bring this tradition to the Hulbert Outdoor Center to wassail a real live tree! The wassail will be led by Revels North's Artistic Director (and authentic Englishman) Alex Cumming.

Following the wassail at 3:30pm, we will head inside to warm up with some community dancing for all! Alex will lead us in fun barn dances, Ceilidh dances, contra dances and more, suitable for the entire family!

There will also be an OPEN BAND led by 2023 Midwinter Revels artist Laurel Swift. This means if you play an instrument, you are very welcome to come join the band! We will provide sheet music with chords, but whether you read music or not, all are welcome to play these simple and fun folk tunes.

CLOG DANCE COURSE

Join Revels North as we present a 6-week course with world renowned clog dancer, Laurel Swift.

Come and learn this intricate and satisfying percussive dance form! We will learn dances that explore a variety of rhythms and ways of making sounds with the clogs. Laurel will teach some of Pat Tracey's dances, which originate from East Lancashire in the North of England and contain many exciting and dynamic steps.

Beginners class is suitable for those who've never tried clog dancing before or those who have done a little and would like a steady and supportive learning environment to get to grips with a complete routine.

The intermediate/advanced class is for those who have experience of clog or other percussive forms and are confident at copying and retaining steps. We will learn an intermediate dance and focus on accuracy of the style, then have a play with choreography and variations.

We have some clogs available to borrow, you can also wear hard soled shoes, ideally with no heel.

Starts Tuesday 13th February

and continues on Feb 20th, Feb 27th, March 5th, March 12 and finishing on March 19th.

Beginners: 6:15pm - 7.15pm

Intermediate/Advanced: 7.30pm - 8.30pm
