RENOVATIONS START FEBRUARY 26!

FAQ

  • Didn’t the Library get renovated recently?

The last Renovations were in the early 2000’s, when a second level was added to the building. The main level of the library, the focus of this renovation, hasn’t been touched since before then.

  • Why are we doing the renovations?

The way our library is currently being used has changed over the years. Our foot traffic continues to increase. We need more room, and can’t expand the building. So, we are working within our current footprint to better meet the needs of our patrons.

We also are looking to change the feel of the library. “Warm and Welcoming” is our goal. To accomplish this, we worked with local interior designers Terri Fiori and Danielle Palmadessa-Lynch to create a more homey feel for the first phase of our renovations.

  • Are the renovations happening all at once?

There are two Phases to this renovation. Phase I will focus on the Foyer, Gallery (hallway where the elevator and bathrooms are on the first floor), and the Rezvani Meeting Room. Phase II will take care of the rest of the first floor - the Children’s Room, the Cafe, and the Circulation Area.

  • What are we renovating?

The renovations of Phase I will upgrade some of our most trafficked areas.  We’ll be updating the look and feel of the Foyer with new wood paneling and furniture. The Gallery will be getting new paint and flooring. The Meeting Room will also be getting new flooring (no more carpet!) and wall coverings. New tables and chairs are also being brought into the Rezvani Meeting Room.

  • When are the renovations going to start?

Phase I of the renovations is scheduled for February 26th through April 5th.

  • Will the Library close for the renovations?

No. Most of the work will begin hours before the library opens to patrons and staff. We will also be able to re-route patrons through the Emergency Door facing De Korte when the Main Entrance is under construction.

  • What about Phase II?

Once we finish Phase I, we will focus on finalizing the design for Phase II. We have a preliminary design and have begun gathering staff and community feedback. Highlights include moving the Circulation Desk to face the building entrance and modernizing our Children’s Room. We will improve sightlines within the building and provide more interactive areas for our younger patrons.

There is no definitive start date for Phase II construction.

  • Who is paying for the renovations?

The Library will be paying for Phase I with our capital reserve funds. The Franklin Lakes Free Public Library Foundation is beginning fundraising efforts for Phase II.

We'll be gathering information from patrons who are interested in giving feedback regarding the Phase II of renovations. If you would be interested, click on the button below to add your name to the list!
