Greetings Ospreys,

Have you heard the news? Durango Devo, Durango's amazingly successful, locally-grown bike development program will be moving their headquarters into our new school! Devo has provided coaching and support for the AHS Mountain Biking Team since its inception, and we're thrilled to expand our partnership in this way.

Our new campus' proximity to great trails and the powerhouse Fort Lewis College Cycling Program, paired with the fact that so many Devo riders attend AHS makes Devo's move a great fit all around. Levi Kurlander, Devo's director, is looking forward to the ways this move will help grow opportunities for youth in our community.
The Devo Nation is so excited to be moving our Clubhouse into the new Animas High School campus. Part of what makes Durango such an amazing place is the power of our community, and this partnership with Animas will help to enhance and bring together both of our communities! With a new Clubhouse in such an awesome location, Devo is looking forward to providing even more of the programs and events you love. Ride on! 

Remember, this Wednesday, August 3 is the FINAL chance to get inside our new building before we move in. Join us for the last Elevated Nest Tour at 5:30pm at 22 Osprey Way, off of Talon Lane near the Bader Snyder dorms. RSVP here or just show up!
Joining the AHS Mountain Biking Team
One of the things we love most about Devo is their inclusive approach to developing lifelong cyclists. You definitely don't need to be an expert rider to join the AHS Mountain Biking Team, and students with wide-ranging levels of experience have loved being part of this program over the years. The team trains and travels to races with the DHS Mountain Biking Team and individual team members can determine how many races they'd like to attend. The scene at Colorado High School Cycling League races is festive and supportive, with all level riders participating and having fun.

Important dates:

  • August 2--Deadline to register with the CO League for Race #1 in Leadville. (Racing is NOT required, but for those who wish to race, make sure to register on time for each race you want to participate. The CO League deadline is always the Monday before each race. The CO HS League makes absolutely NO exceptions to their race registration deadline). CO League registration instructions can be found in the links above. 
  • August 23--First day of practice at 4:30pm at the Rec Center. 
  • August 26--Leave for Race #1 in Leadville

DHS Fall Sports
Many AHS student athletes participate in team sports through Durango High School and other area schools, depending on where they live. Joining a team is a great way to support positive relationships and wellbeing! Visit the Durango High School Athletics website for all the details about which sports are available when, how to sign up, game schedules and more.
