Hello BCE,

Welcome to the 2022-23 school year! Thank you for investing in the future of all our Burlingame School District (BSD) TK-8th grade students. Because of your commitment, this school year we’re granting

$2,650,000

enabling BSD to fund 19 teacher salaries and 3 professional development days for ALL BSD teachers this year.

Take a moment to review the grant letter and impact details here.

The majority of the grant came from you, our donors. However, like last year, reserve funds were required to meet a 3% shortfall and make the $2.65M grant possible. Due to rising salaries and costs, sustaining existing funding actually requires $2.9M, so the grant we are making won’t fully cover last year’s 20 teaching positions.

In order to make our donor funding sustainable, participation is KEY.

ALL BSD students benefit from the annual grant EVERY DAY.

  • Historically about 45% of BSD families give between $10 and $50,000.
  • Approximately 20% of our families are socioeconomically disadvantaged and unable to give.
  • If the 1,407 BSD families that didn’t contribute last school year had given just $50, we would have raised $70,350 more and exceeded our grant goal.

Please participate with any amount that is meaningful to your family!

We need your help!

Ask neighbors, friends, and family members to donate to our annual campaign to keep great teachers in our community and crucial programs in our schools.

Give early at a level that is meaningful to your family.

Volunteer your time, talent and leadership to our shared mission.

Together, we will be able to continue funding existing programs and help BSD meet additional needs in the future.

Donating early allows our educators to plan ahead and adds to your school’s participation. Contribute by October 31, and you will receive a BCE Fall Drive lawn sign lawn sign to proudly display in your yard (while supplies last). We appreciate your continued support of your school and all of our Burlingame schools through BCE.

We are Burlingame. We are BCE.

P.S. Don't forget to get your Harry Potter and The Cursed Child tickets for August performances to help support our schools.

For Jen Faber, her love of Burlingame came in three parts: the beautiful trees, the climate and the schools. Jen, and her husband Fred, moved to Burlingame from Laguna Niguel in Aug 2019.

When asked why she chose to take on the important role of BCE President, Jen explained, “I love physical education, music, and small class sizes. I feel strongly that public school students deserve a well-rounded education, and these things all help in providing that.”

The mother of three boys, Dominic (2nd grader), Peter (4th grader) and Dylan (6th grader), currently stays busy (by being a mother of three boys!) and occasionally tutoring high schoolers in science. She also volunteers with the National Ski Patrol. Before having children, she worked for DePuy Orthopedics.

In her spare time, the Rhode Island native enjoys running, cycling, swimming, skiing and chatting. She is looking forward to the day when every child gets the education they deserve.

Be sure to say hello to Jen around town!

A former Georgia peach, Angela and her family relocated from the east coast to the Bay Area in 2011 settling on Burlingame because of the amazing schools. Angela first joined BCE as President-elect in 2014 after serving as Franklin PTA President for two years. After her three-year term on the BCE Board of Directors, she joined the BCE staff full time using her fundraising expertise to continue to serve the BCE mission.

Angela grew up in an underprivileged household and was the first in her family to graduate high school and attend college, so she takes the BCE mission and how it enhances the value of our public schools personally. Angela shares, “I believe every child deserves a rich and inspiring education despite their circumstances. Inadequate state funding infuriates me; how can such an economically robust state place so little value on our youngest, voiceless citizens and their future? Education is foundational and a great equalizer and I’m constantly inspired by this community and how they make our shared grant a reality year after year.”

Angela is the mother of three boys, former Franklin Falcons and BIS Trojans and her husband David works at Genentech. Angela enjoys spending time with her family traveling, playing board games and watching movies. She also enjoys dog playdates with her only girl, a husky named Rey.

Angela is always up for a conversation about fundraising and supporting our schools so reach out anytime!
