We wanted to let you know about some exciting developments at Emerge. These include recent media attention, community collaborations, legislative testimony, and training across the nation.

Media Interviews

David Adams, Co-Director, and an Emerge client were quoted in the July 22nd issue of the New Yorker. The article, "A Raised Hand: Can a new approach curb domestic homicide?" by Rachel Louise Snyder, is located on pages 34-41.

Additionally, just last week David Adams was interviewed by Robin Young of Here and Now on WBUR, a nationally syndicated program on National Public Radio. Listen to the complete interview by clicking here

Training Across the Globe
forum Where We've Been

Emerge has continued to extend its reach on a national and international level. In the past few months alone, Ted German, Director of Training, has provided Emerge trainings in Alaska, Hawaii, Indiana, and North Carolina. David Adams, Co-Director, has recently trained in South Carolina and Tennessee. Meanwhile, we have had participants travel from Hong Kong, American Samoa, Ghana, Italy, England, and Wales to attend our Emerge Introductory trainings in Massachusetts just this year.

Where We're Going

In the next few weeks, Ted German and Susan Cayouette, Co-Director, will be traveling to Fort Riley, Kansas to conduct a training with the military. David Adams will be going to Vermont, Utah, and Kansas to provide various trainings. Additionally, Emerge is holding a national conference on Domestic Violence and Danger Assessment in St. Petersburg, Florida from December 16-17.

Abusers 201 Conference
Essential Up-to-Date Information about Abusers and Abuser Interventions

Emerge is holding a national conference from November 4-5 in Minneapolis, MN which will include a virtual "Who's Who" of national domestic violence experts including Emerge staff. For more information about the conference, the complete agenda, and to register, please visit our website

Testimony about Gun Legislation

David Adams, Co-Director, provided testimony to the Massachusetts Legislature's Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security at a hearing on gun legislation. David spoke on a panel with Jane Doe, Inc. and the Massachusetts League of Women Voters. The panel was the only testimony that spoke about firearms and domestic violence. Read David's testimony here.

Community Collaboration

Group Meeting
Ted German, Director of Training, has been working in conjunction with other local organizations and the Cambridge City Council on a new project called "21 Days of Questions, 365 Days of Answers." Ted has been working for over a year on the planning committee for this new grassroots initiative intended to raise awareness about intimate partner violence.

Emerge Advanced Training

Emerge's next Advanced Skills training will be held November 7-8 at our office in Cambridge, MA. The training is primarily designed for people who have experience leading abuser education groups. At this training, participants will grapple with the complexities of group leadership, learn new skills and interventions, and tackle cutting edge issues in the overall field of abuser education.
