THEY'RE BACK!
by Mary Koher

The Queen and her King are back for season #10, high atop the Indiana-Michigan Building in Fort Wayne! What lies ahead for Moxie and Jamie this year? Will it be another "nail biting" experience like we had last year with Nova and Kiri? Stay tuned!

IT'S SPRING!
by Gigi Stewart
|
|
Spring is here, and at Soarin’ Hawk that means baby season, when we have lots of young birds brought into our facility, some still covered with downy feathers and not able to eat on their own, and others not knowing how to hunt for their food. Now is a great time for you to join Soarin’ Hawk as a volunteer and lend a hand in our bird ICU, helping get this year's young birds back out into the wild where they belong!
If you’d like to become a volunteer in our ICU or with any other of our volunteer opportunities, please contact our volunteer coordinator, Gigi Stewart, at gigi.stewart@soarinhawk.org

A TENSE TIME IN NEW YORK
A Eurasian Eagle Owl named Flaco (same species as Soarin' Hawk's Chewie), from New York's Central Park Zoo, escaped when someone broke into the Zoo during the night and used wire-cutters to cut its cage open. For several days, zookeepers tried to catch the bird with no luck. There was concern that, because he had been in captivity, that he would not have the skills necessary to find food.
Flaco has become quite the celebrity, with people coming from far and wide to catch a glimpse of him. Our own Anne Heger visited New York for her birthday (happy birthday, Anne!), and went in search of Flaco and found him hooting and preening in a tree in Central Park. Observers from the Zoo report that Flaco is eating well, so there are no plans to try to capture him again, unless he appears to be in distress.

NOT RAPTORS, BUT THEY HAVE WINGS
|
|
Spring is right around the corner, and the bees are waking up after a not-so-long, not-so-cold winter. Please remember, as you begin your yard care, that they'll be looking for sources of pollen, and help them if you can. Also remember that many bees live underground, and in leaves and detritus left over from last fall. Read more about bees here

Thanks to people like you, we were able to rescue, rehabilitate, and release this beautiful Red-Tailed Hawk. After a few weeks in our facility, she was released in her home territory, to continue life in the wild. Won't you make a donation, so we can help others like her? No contribution is too small!
Your donation is tax deductible.
